Hilux Wont Start After Heating Up

nala4ever

Question

HI All,

I have a 1988 toyota hilux, And it starts perfectly at any given time. And i can even drive it long distances too. However if you stop the vehicle after it heats up, (5 mins after running or 2-3 hours of running) i cant start it until it cools down.

Im guessing this is something related to the coolant temperature sensor. Can someone here please advice,

Thanks in advance.

Awesomeness... Narrowed down the areas that i need to check :) Thanks a lot Don!

Does the pump go hard after pumping a few times? If it doesn't it can also be the hand pump. But usually this will result in being hard to start in the morning as well.

Air can get into the line when the filter is not correctly set on its holder. Also remember the filter seals are for single use. If you take the filter off for any reason, you have to replace the filter. Else air can get into the fuel lines and cause starting issues.

yep, the pump becomes hard after several pumps. And even after i replaced the diesel filter, The issue still exists :S

Then the likely candidate is the pump. Get it serviced and test after.

Where the rubber lines connect to the copper lines, make sure you have adjustable clamps and they are tight, and the pipes do not move around.
