If you are okay with a hatchback, go for a Mazda 2001 Demio. These cars are very spacious for that range and also gives good fuel economy.

The manual one does around 11 in the city and 14 in long distances. (I guess the auto will do -1 from these figures)

You can find a good condition one for around 1.3/1.4mil
