Exposed Air Filters

To what extent is the above video true?? If exposed air filters perform better why is it covered in the first place?? Is there any adverse effects of exposing the air filter??

I checked the vehicle I drive and just as this guy says the air filter is covered and there's only a small inlet from the fender. Removed the front part of the air filter casing and I could clearly hear a changed sound. I think it improved performance slightly

Has anyone got an idea about this??

I also have same concern. In my suzuki swift HT51s, there's a vary small inlet for air flow. Will it increase km/l if I remove the front part or make inlet hole big?
