chanakaauto

Question

I'm using a Nissan March AK 12, 2003 model with a mileage of 110000 km. At present there is an engine oil leak in the cam sensor. During a long distance travelling there is leak of a quarter bottle of engine oil. What can i do for this? If i replace the rubber O ring will it be ok? If so where can i ayt this small rubber O ring? I welcome your valuable ideas regarding this matter. Thanks.

Why don't you take it to a mechanic. This is probably a pretty easy problem to fix, you just need to isolate which oil seal or line is leaking and replace it.

The so called packings and o rings are mostly made of heat resistant rubber which become hard and lose their supple qualities essential to make a good seal. So they are likely to start leaking as the car gets older. They are not that expensive to buy. The agent replaced the oil filter adapter packing in my Swift for around 2000 and thats with a genuine part.

While you are at the mechanic as The Don has suggested check if the crank case is under negative pressure (vacuum). There is no formal method that I know of to do this. But if you remove the oil cap and close the opening with a sili sili bag while the engine is running(taking care not to spill oil), the part of the bag covering the opening should form into a convex shape indicating a vacuum inside the crank case. However, in an engine done over 100k it will not from a clean steady convex shape but instead the bag will flutter up and down because of the blow-by fumes leaking out from the piston rings. But if the shape is convex most of the time as can be visually observed you may conclude that the crank case is in vacuum and the PCV mechanism is doing its job. Why I say this is because an oil leak could be an indication of pressure building up in the crank case due to a blockage/fault in PCV mechanism. If so you can get the PCV checked and cleaned or replaced. In some extreme cases the fume paths through the oil baffle inside the cam cover too may have to be cleaned but I don't think you would have to go that far.
