Quad Headlights!

Guys. Does anybody know how the quad headlight setups are supposed to work ? My car had originally come with H4 bulb setup and later due to damage or discoloration was changed to H7+H1 setup which has a glass lens. The car in question is an N16. The H7+H1 swap is done often as both H4 and H7+H1 setups are direct fits.

When I switch on the high beams the low beams' brightness drop to about ~60 -70% while the high beams are at full brightness. But if I try to flash the headlights, at a certain point on the light stalk both the low beam and high beam light up at full blast. Also if I hold the stalk in this position it will work at full blast. Is this the correct behavior of the quad headlights ? I don't see any modifications done on the headlight harness or the connectors but as I know the H4 setup (my original setup) doesn't light up both filaments when the high beam is switched on for obvious reasons.

I've been able to switch on both filaments when I pull the stalk, I attribute that to two sets of contacts for the two relays which are independently activated. As for the dimming thing, I dunno. Are the low beams meant to be lit when the high beams are on? My Axio has both lit at the same time when I push or pull the stalk.

I have a friend with a face lift N16, what everyone calls the N17 even though no such designation exists. I'll check with him on this and get back to you.
