Abs Sound At Low Speeds.

asanka_rg

Question

Hey guys,

I am starting new thread as the story getting large. I got the Chevrolet Cruze 2004 limited. And I got abs warning lamp on few times and went off. Then I cleaned sensors and got this creepy brazzze sound atevery stop of the car.

I check with a mechanic at avissawella said the problem is abs unit.

Then I again scan the car with A M W and said no sensor fault. They also Sai the abs unit is the fault. While they scannng no abs light is on and that creepy sound came.

Then I go found a abs unit and fix and the issue is terrible. This done with a different mechanic at nugegoda. Sound came bit aggressively. Need to mention that the abs unit is not the exactly same one with the original. There are few pins in the connector is different. It was a swift module. But after fixing no warning lamp was on. Then the mechanic re scan the car at his own place with the already fixed module not the original. And I saw the abs warning lamp is on while rescaning and no creepy sound (hopefully as abs is off. There he showed a one wheel sensor read a 0 kmph speed when we running lower 11kmph speed. At higher speeds sensor read the correct speed.then he asked to replace that sensor it was front left. That day was really hard for me and I'm so confused. What is to do.

After all these I returned the new module and fixed the original. And check the left sensor getting out and fixed again. Now the Abs light is on. Need to try replacing the sensor. Could you all give me some explanation what's happening.

Second what Rumesh said, most probably it's either a faulty wheel sensor or the speed sensor ring has gotten loose.

I had a simmilar issue, in my case the abs light would come on randomly. If the light was on abs didn't work, when the light was not on abs would be applied even at low speeds. Turned out to be an out of place speed sensor ring.

Yeah could you tell me while scanning, can ABS light is on. Bcz I sacnned two times. Once it was off. Once it is on. Which is right.

This is an intermittent problem of the sensor ie a sensor failing to sense the rotation of the wheel below a certain speed. So you may have a stored fault code from time to time. In fact for the control unit to identify a faulty sensor of this nature, the car should be driven at a low speed (say below 10kmph) for a few seconds without brake being applied. If the sensor signal fails as the car slows down while applying the brake, it is considered by the control unit as a wheel lock situation and ABS is activated. For the stored code to clear (unless you reset it while scanning) the car should be driven above a certain speed (above 10kmph) for a predetermined period (let's say 10 seconds) for the control unit observe the signals from each sensor.

Thanks guys and I wondered why the agents for Suzuki also misjudge the situation. I wasted time and money due to that. I will do the sensor replacing asap. By the way lots of used sensors found with cable cut off. Is it safe to use one of them??

Usually these wheel sensors are reliable and need only cleaning once in few years simply because they tend to gather iron shavings from brake discs/drums and eventually losing their sensitivity. So if a used sensor works it should be reliable at least in theory :D.

BTW did you check cleanliness of the toothed wheel as well? If you have grease, dirt or iron shavings on its teeth it may have the same effect as a dirty sensor.
