Mazda SkyActiv Generation 2

Mazda has noted that it's new SkyActiv Generation 2 Engine will make it's debut in the new Mazda 3 next facelift scheduled in end of 2018.  A 30% fuel saving (3.3L/100km) has been suggested  against the current SkyActiv petrol engine (5.7L/100Km) ahead of Toyota Prius (3.4L/100kM).

The features include a petrol engine  without  Spark plugs, uses Homogeneous Charge Compression Ignition (HCCI) technology similar to  that of a Diesel engine. it also features less emissions specially NOx.

According to Mazda, the HCCI has been pursued by numerous manufactures notably Mercedes Benz  since 2007 , none has been able to deliver a production ready.

They also indicate that this, as a key development to enable the return of the rotary engine.
