Greetings my friends.

I have a mazda familia bj5p (japanese) 2000 manual transmission vehicle which has a stiff steering wheel. I checked the power steering rack for any leakage or anything but everything works fine. Mechanic said that its normal. Please suggest if anywhere I can diagnose this or is it normal in this model.

Thanks Guys.

BJ5P’s are designed mainly focusing on performance and handling. Hence, the steering is a bit stiff compared to most of the other sedans of the same league. If there isn’t anything wrong with the steering system; just don’t worry. Initially; this is something that is a bit difficult to get used to but you will get a long after sometime. In fact; you will start loving the stiff handling at high speeds. :)

It is very very normal. That's what gives the car good steering feel. Also the rack is very fast (wheels turn a lot compared to steering input) so making it light would be dangerous as well. It is a little  tiresome in stop and go traffic but you will love it on long distance trips.
