Im planning a road trip to Jaffna via Mannar and would like to know the best route from Colombo to Mannar,I would be driving an older car and would like to go on good roads as much as i can ,of course I can go via Madawchchiya but would like to know a short route if possible and travel time

Would be grateful if you recommend good place to stop and eat on the way too,usually I have been stopping near Pallavi at a place called Seibels Seafood and its been quite good so far

The shortest is from Nochchiyagama via  Oyamaduda and Thanthirimale to mannar road. By this you can avoid medawachchiya.
