hey

this might sound crazy but can you put a normal home speker in the car?

You got to match the ohms. Home speakers are normally 8 I think. Car speakers are 4. So you may end up frying something

yes you can. Fundamentally they're the same (most common stand-alone home speakers). You need to make sure the impedance is not less than 4Ω (for most car stereos).

Diff is, when u double the Imp to 8Ω, then the current thru the coil is halved [V=IR or V=IZ (Z=Imp)]. Which means the magnetic fld generated is half as powerful. Therefore the diaphram/cone moves half as much.

IF you really want to reach the full range of motion for the speaker, then put 2 speakers in parallel to half the Imp. Just make sure not to go below 4Ω which allows more current to be drawn from the amplifier ckt.

That's right, the normal car stereo amps won't match the impedance of the home stereo speakers.

After some time either the amp or the speakers will go bust.

Oh yes you can. i saw dozens of hiace and caravans towards nuwara eliya and in nuwara eliya with speaker boxes which is deffinielty from their indoor set up

Reviving an old thread for a current issue:

I'm looking for 3" car speakers. For mid range. Preferably driveable by a 4 channel amp. This is to mount them behind the blower vents of the datto. I've seen it done in USA and I wanna try it. Because it'll be a shame to have modern speakers sticking out like a sore thumb on the doors/dash.

This way I can hide the speakers, and can even point them! How cool is that?

Do you guys know:

1. Where I can find 3" speakers (locally)

2. Whether I can fix home speakers

To this. A good brand like harman/ jbl.
