i guess that kinda 'consumer' they went to... cos obviously the older generations would not chose a GTR or a STi.... i guess in a way, you can never have a poll on cars that gives a result that everyone is happy with..

The Beetle has been in production since 1949 (and still is)- its considered the precursor to the modern day budget car. Most of our parents will remember owning one or driving one in their lifetime....

Remember the list is for the 50 greatest "All time" cars....

The E30 3 series is considered the quintessential BMW; being the car that brought the company our of near bankruptcy....and putting BMW squarely in the arena of performance sedans...

Most of the cars on the list have historical importance- by setting some kind of milestone in the automotive industry....

Having said that, its clear that this list is very biased toward british & European cars...(Aston Martin DB9??? the sh*t is only 1 year old and probably has only 800 very rich owners! What BS!)

LoL...u think this list is bad!!! hehehe u shud see the American Greatest Car lists!!!...if i remember right the top 26 were all american cars!! and there was only one Jap car...the 1990 Acura NSX...and even that is made in the states!!! LoL

Granted...the Americans think they're on Plant America....anything "international" for a resident is anything outside their state- they're not even thinking borders...go figure!

One thing though- the NSX was 100% japanese designed and built (they even flew Aryton Senna to Japan for the testing!)- but at the same time, it was one of few Japanese Sports cars that were legally allowed into the US...the only others being the 300zx; and Supra. This was in the 90's- when the NSX was at its peak...

It blew away the American motoring industry because it was first time VTEC was introduced to that market...coupled with a mid-engine, aluminium frame concept...and given that this all happened in around '91-92...it was considered way ahead of its time....

But, the americans do come through once in a while- like the 1960's Ford GT40; but even then, the only way they could recreate that kind of car was to just come up with a modern interpretation of the same car!

Dude my fav car from the states is the '67 Shelby GT-500...!! WoW!!

and the supra,nsx and 300zx were also manufactured in the states...the nsx was badged as the Acura....

I think what Andy means is, it is the ACURA NSX that gets on the list, not the Honda one. Yes it's just badge engineering, and yes, the same thing, but its a measure of the american thought process. Thats why Andy says its the american made one.

I'd actually also expect the corolla to be on that list. Not a big fan of it these days, but it really is what got toyota up there.
