Seems like terrorism has caused for it to be canceled!! Looks like the French ministry of foreign affairs strongly advised them to not have it this year damn!!

Duncan, sad scene is a phenomenal understatement considering the fact that the Dakar is the absolute highlight of the motorsports year.

As I was telling Pilawoos yesterday, this was the year that the Mitsubishis would be beaten, either by Robby Gordon, Giniel De Villers or most likely Carlos Sainz. As much as the French have a reputation for being a bunch of cheese-eating, wine-drinking surrender-monkeys, this is probably a wise decision.

Yeah you are right KLM.

Feel sorry for the privateers who spend hard earned money getting to the race.

We had a guy from here who practiced for over two years, and organised several fund raising events to collect enough funds to enter the race in his quad (ATV). Poor guy!

The Southern African countries have been talking of starting their own equivalent to the Dakar. This might be a great opportunity for us

A bad start for 2008 motorsports. The cancellation came mainly due to the murder of four French tourists on 24th December and direct threats launched against the race by terrorist organisations.

they say they will have the next one without any such hiccups... if thats the case, I don't see why they cant postpone it by a few months and have security beefed up... if not come next time around we might have the same thing repeat itself...
