Found some details about proposed expressways of Sri Lanka. No Idea about the timeline of these projects. However here they are for your attention.

Colombo Katunayake Expressway

INTERCHANGES :

DESIGN DETAILS

• Speed Limit: 0 to 8 Km - 80 Km/h
• 8 - 25 Km -110 Km/h
• Length of Road: 25.1Km
• Width of Carriageway: 25.4m

Southern Expressway

INTERCHANGES

• Kottawa (23rd km of the High level road)
• Kahatuduwa (19th km of the Colombo Horana Road)
• Gelanigama (12th km of the Panadura Nambapana Rathnapura Road)
• Dodangoda (08th km of the Nagoda - Matugama Road)
• Welipanna (43rd km of the Horana Anguruwathota Aluthgama Road)
• Kurundugahetekma (13th km of the Ambalangoda – Elpitiya Road)
• Baddegama (12th km of the Hikaduwa- Badegama- Nilhena Road)
• Pinnaduwa (Near 06th km of the Galle – Udugama Road)
• Deegoda (16th km of the Galle – Deniyaya Road)
• Kokmaduwa (07th km of the Weligama – Kananke Road)
• Godagama (04th km of the Matara – Akuressa Road)

DESIGN DETAILS

• Total Length - Kottawa to MAtara - 126 km / Galle fort access - 4.9 km

• Stage I - Kottawa to Dodangoda - 4 lane / Dodangodato Godagama - 2 lane
• Final Stage - Kattawa to Matara widening of 6 lanes

Colombo Kandy Highway

DESIGN DETAILS

• Design Speed - 100 Km/Hour up to Devalegama / 80 Km/Hour from Devalegama to Katugastota
• Length - 98 km
• No.of Lanes -

1. Kadawata to Ambepussa – 4 Lanes (with provision for 6 lanes in future)
2. Ambepussa to Devalegama – 2 Lanes ( with provision for 4 lanes in future)
3. Devalegama to Katugastota – 2 Lanes

Outer Circular Highway

INTERCHANGES

• Kerawalapitiya with Colombo - Katunayake Expressway
• Mattumagala with Peliyagoda - Puttalam Road
• Kadawatha with Colombo Kandy (A1) Road & proposed Colombo Kandy Expressway
• West of Biyagama Town with Kelaniya - Mudungoda Road
• West of Kaduwela Town with Colombo - Hanwella Low Level Road
• Makumbura (Kottawa) with Colombo - Ratnapura (A4) Road and proposed Southern Expressway

• Traffic Lane - 3.5m
• Shoulder - 3.0m

• Initial Stage - 4 lanes
• Ultimate Stage - 6 lanes

not bad...looks good on paper...let's hope things work out well. doesn't have much of a chance with all the corruption etc in the country....imagine 2 years down the line, i'm sure there will be road side tea shops and pavement vendors along the highways!!! and our very "disciplined" drivers doing U-turns and what not in the middle of the road...

...120km/h limit is faster than the speed limits on US highways!! which is around 65mph.....interesting...

the southern express way is terminating at kottawa!...so all the vehicles will be traveling down high-level road.....not good, considering it's a traffic nightmare as it is....

Adding a little clarification:

Southern expressway won’t be terminating at Kottawa. There it will join the Outer Circular Highway which join all 3 Highways together.

wasn't this proposed donkey's years ago. i think it was during chandika's regime that they drew the plans for this. (or was it a different 'expressway')

what happened to the one that started work in the same era where they had to pump lot of sad???

I think the first phase of the southern expressway was supposed to be completed by August 2006. Sadly I have not been back home since April 2006 so could somebody confirm this is the case and the second phase has begun.
