Apparently the Humvee might be replaced in the coming years with this from the British Defence contractor BAE -

baearmouredvehicleqy9.jpg

Weighing in at just shy of 7 tonnes and with a removable diesel power train and 1" thick amour on all panels, its expected to be quite a tool!

The ride height is adjustable...by 2 Feet !!

There is unlikely to be a civillian version of this vehicle :)

the day of lightly armored troop transportation vehicles are slowly coming to an end as they do not seem to suit the kind of challenges troops face on the battlefields against sophisticated weapons and urban warfare.

thats a big jeep/truck/tank......

but i dont think it'll replace the humvee... the humvee is much more versatile and can play a number of roles in the field..

Might be another version that they'll use to take troops to urban battlefields without being ambushed and shot at like sitting ducks in some alley in iraq..

Actually Dilesh the Humvee will probably get replaced by vehicles like this which have better armour and an engine capable of dragging that armour around than the Humvee

They had to urgently armour all their Humvees and afghanistan and Iraq as they started losing troops to ambushes and road side bombs which is what problem the acquisition of vehicle like this while their armoured up their existing fleet of humvees as a short term measure.

bottom line is the Humvee will have a limited role in combat and troop transport while vehicles like this will take over

same story with the trucks and bigger troop cariers

ya the hummer will eventually get replaced...I think from Iraq they learnt a lot from road side bombs and IED's...so i guess they will go for lot of armour and power in the new line of jeeps
