Razo
Dont do it. IMO Altos are just one of those cars that are not ment to be modified. ...
Car Maniac
Dont do it. IMO Altos are just one of those cars that are not ment to be modified. ... I also agree with Razo. Indian Alto is not meant to be modified, from the origin of the design. I dont believe you can ever turn a maruti small car like Alto into a better look through exterior mods unless you first throw away the front and rear black matt color bumpers.( I believe you are asking regarding the normal LXI, not the special edition alto that comes with body color bumpers as standard. That special edition looks great with colored bumpers.) Reason why im saying that is, If you are thinking of modifying the exterior of the alto, definitely you have to start from the front and rear bumpers as I told early. Because they are the major cause for altos' quite cheap look compared to the special edition Alto. I have observed that Maruti 800 also has the same black matt bumpers and people who have painted those black matt bumpers of maruti 800s into body color have come with a different color due to some reason. So if you look at a such a car, you can clearly see there's a difference between the cars body and the bumper color. I suspect the same thing can happen to an Alto if you try to paint the matt bumper ,though I really havent seen any normal Altos with post-painted bumpers. Bro, Dont get misled. Above statements are my assumptions. Im not too sure about it. So you better check it with a good garage and discuss the matter with a good painter whether he can get the same body color out of the post painted bumpers of your Alto. ( I have a maruti 800 and my cousin brother has a maruit alto LXI car with the normal black matt bumpers. He is the one who told me about that assumption as he has got scared to paint bumpers in his car. But regarding exterior body parts like bumper lips, side skirts and spoilers I cant give an exact opinion. Its upto you bro................................ As I early said Altos are not meant to be modified. if your modification looks fine for the car, thats great. but if your modification turns the normal Alto into a strange shape (like a UFO ) thats going to be disadvantageous for you when you are going to sell it one day, cos the market preference for Alto is mainly focused on the standard car cos most people by it as a budget family car without much fancies (I would better say decent ,rather). So in my opinion think twice or even thrice before going to modify your Alto. Regarding the central locking, of course you can easily get a central locking system installed in your alto. Im not sure with the prices but Im pretty sure it may be around rs. 2500(not sure ). And at the same time you can go for a remote central locking system or a complete security system at once, if your budget allows. These central locking and security systems are available at number of places and one of my friend got installed a system for his car recently by s#n l*nka. Anyway I got to say central locking is no big deal for a good electrician who has previous exposure to similar installations. The power shutter thing: mmm..... Im not very confident about. But I think that could be bit messy and it is not worth going for a power shutter system for your alto. Alto is made to be a simple basic car. So we should let it alone like that. Shouldn't we?? So in my opinion first think about how long you are gonna keep it. Edited May 20, 2008 by Car Maniac

Ripper
well another thing to think about is that how these mods will affect your resale value... this car is one those that might not be that appealing to the audience it's targetted at after visual mods... just my 2 cents

gayanath
Power window is a handy thing for car (I think Japanese alto has power window). I found several power window kits in ebay. Does anyone know where to buy power window kits in Sri Lanka? I bought a tow door kit from Darly Road. I cant remember the name of the shop. the problem is the switch kit is very bad. have to replase it with better switches and relay kit. if not the motor power drops due to loose connection of switches.
