High Flow Cat

YOHANN

Recommended Posts

I am trying to learn as much as I can about high flow cats and their effect on power on Turbo charged cars.

Athough I know there are various views on this subject I personally believe that emission laws will be implemented within the next year, hance the sudden interest.

Any idea on pricing/decent brands etc?

Thanks

What I am interrested is whether it improves fuel consumption or performance!

Hi, Neither, It makes your emissions cleaner. Hopefully without killing too much power. I am hoping someone has some info on actual numbers.

Catalytic Converter Description

Catalytic converters, sometimes called catalitic converters, have come a long way since the power-sapping pellet-style catalysts of the mid-70s. Newer honeycomb catalytic converters allow relatively free flow through your car's exhaust system while cleaning up nasty pollutants from your engine. Catalytic converters don't last forever, though, given the harsh environment in which they work, and you're not going to pass an emissions test without a fully-functioning catalytic converter. When it's time for a new catalytic converter, don't stop at the dealership parts counter. They'll want an arm and a leg for the same quality parts you can get right here at a steep discount. Our catalytic converters fit and function just like OEM catalytic converters, but you don't pay for the fancy box. So get your car emissions-legal for a fraction of the cost with one of our many OE fit catalytic converters. And if it's time to change out your catalytic converter, why not gain a few horsepower in the process? One of our high-flow catalytic converters will give you power and torque increases while still keeping your exhaust clean. How? A high-flow catalytic converter uses a low-restriction element that cleans combustion byproducts without slowing down the gas flow. More power. More torque. Cleaner exhaust. A high-flow catalytic converter is a winner any way you cut it.

The ones for sale on the web are more than $100

Hi Guys,

I have personal experience on these. I once fitted a hi flow cat made in the USA to a car which had been foolishly de catted by its previous owner. The car would not pass the emmisions at the annual mot test so I was asked to help. The manufacturers replacement was £ 470.00+vat(17.5%) plus my charges for fitting! I obtained a hi pergormance replacement at £65.00 cut off the pipe that replaced the original and had my welder collegue weld the new one in place. The car was then scanned and chec ked for any further fault codes by me and tested for the Mot. It passed easily. The owner reported no power loss at all and was extremely great ful the his bill was less than half what it could have been. I test a fair few Subaru's and I know that the performance specialist offers their customers the option of a hi flow performance cats all the time. They have a rolling road and do a lot of ecu mapping on these cars. They say that there is only a negligeble or no power loss from a performance cat once the ecu map is properly set up. You also get the added benifit of not polluting the enviorenment.

I think a cat in Sri Lanka will be very good for reducing pollution unlike in the UK where the cat reaches operating temperature a very long time after setting off on a journey, as a result of the colder climate. I test enough cars during the Mot where nearly 40 minutes of running during the Mot test still does not ignite the cat sufficiently to meet the emmision level parameters. We end up having to rev these cars for extended periods for the cat to ignite so it does not fail the test needlessly.

Maithri.

machang i m not sure about figures regarding emissions but i ve got a high flow race cat made by zero sports on my sti and the turbo spools much faster and revs right through to the redline much harder. its less restrictive hence exhaust fumes exit much quicker. so it improves performance significantly prob around 10-15 bhp gain, however fuel consumption is significantly higher tho. oops this is darin by the way didnt realize i was using my friends log in

Hi Darin,

Good to hear from you..

I am running no cat at the moment with 3 inch turbo back so considering this.

How much did the Zero sports one cost?

I am being quoted AUS$350 for an Aussie made one.

When are you back?

Hi Machang

Zero spors one cost £ 450 but its much cheaper in japan.

machang running a sports cat will be helpful because it can prevent boost spike where excessive boost comes on suddenly the cat will help smoothen out the boost curve.

i will be back on the 15th of july. will defo see you then.
