Toyoya Corolla Ae100

Question

I would like to buy a Corolla AE100. Can u all advice me about the price, spare parts, fuel consumption etc.

Thanks

price largely varies from specimen to specimen depending on the condition of the car... i would guess you should be able to find anything between 8.5k+ to all the way to 11k odd...

Ae100's come with different models like se limited, xe limited, sprinter, lx, dx etc Prices slightly vary depending on what's popular in the market.

Sprinters are the slightly more "premium" over the rest of em...

I bought mine lil over 2 years for 10.5k... car was in good shape minus the stereo which i later sorted out :)

Mine does 10-12 in colombo depending on my mood that day and traffic levels with AC full on...

Spare parts are freely available and some parts are interchangeable from the newer AE110...

Try to find Corolla AE100 or AE101, YOM 1995, with 5AFE engine, SE Limited, White light, Gold batch, 1500CC Manual gear model. That is the best AE100 model price may be 1.075 – 1.2 M

Fuel: 10-12 Kmpl city 14-18 kmpl Long run (full AC on) depend on your driving style, filters condition, spark plug condition as well as tire condition.

Spare parts: Can fix AE100, AE101 and AE110 parts (not body parts)

Very economical and reliable.

this was my pet. but this is AE101

i sold this to 1.1m

AE 100 second hand car (Corolla, SE limied) prices are going up than other cars. Some people say that AE 100 is smarter than AE 110 is that true?

true to an extent. i personly feel ae 100 got more aerodynamic look than a 110. ae 100 has got more leg space.

Wat you mean by mood, in which mood you get da best fuel consumption, ple explain.

in all honesty i don't drive with fuel efficiency in mind...

there are days you putter along...change gears little over 2000rpm and don't really floor the throttle

and then there are days that you change gears at 4000+rpm and floor it from time to time...

It means when ripper is in a bad mood he just floors it and wastes a lot of fuel but when he's not pissed off he just drives casually ;)

Fuel efficiency has a lot to do with the driving style, for an instance two people will have different fuel consumption figures in the same car because of their driving styles.A lot of things matter when driving with fuel economy in mind; shifting RPM,how hard you accelerate, how much brake's you use etc :alc:

It's simple. Keep your rpms as low as possible when accelerating (and driving), and try to stay in the highest gear as much as possible when cruising, (I'm guessing at around 50 - 70 kmph.) And once you get to cruising speed, just feather the accelerator to keep the car in motion.

The Neutral gear disengages the transmission from the engine. Some people might tell you change from D to N while driving for God knows what reason. Imo that's a bad idea, even in a manual car. You really don't need to drop it into N unless you're stationary for a long time.

Just like big_D said dont accelerate too hard also dont floor it when overtaking cause then the car shift to a lower gear and gives you more torque at the cost of fuel economy; just smoothly accelerate.

Cars usually achieve the best economy between 50-70kmph so when cruising make sure you stay in that range, also at that speed you can lift off the throttle from time to time and give a little bit of gas when you feel the car is slowing down.

Another important factor is how often you use the brakes; for an instance some people accelerate unnecessarily when in traffic and bake hard to stop, this is a waste of fuel cause in traffic no matter how hard you accelerate you will have to stop eventually and the distance you cover would also be the same but you will waste more fuel doing so, the best thing to is to smoothly accelerate.

Another tip regarding braking is how hard you brake; for an instance some people keep their foot on the gas until the last moment and then brake hard, the proper way to do it is when you see a block in front of you (lets say about 100-50 meters) let go of the throttle and let the car slowly stop by itself (in short let go of the gas as far as possible and let the car just slow down to a stop; will need some practicing though )

Also when you pump petrol\diesel never pump in the evening cause during daytime the storage tanks in fuels stations heat up and the petrol\diesel molecules tend to spread in heat so even though the volume indicates (lets say 10 ltrs) you will get less, but in the morning the tanks will be cooled overnight and the molecules will be packed tighter so you will get more than what you pay for :)

A word of caution, some people put the car to neutral when going downhills to save fuel but this is a very dangerous thing cause when in gear the engine also helps in braking and reducing the load on the brakes, but in N since the gears are disengaged the whole load will be on the brakes alone increasing breaking distance which is not a good thing at all :alc: :alc

+1 :) Yah its not advisable to shift from D to N while driving. Also if one accidently shifts to "R" while shifting from D to N that would be the end of the gearbox i guess

+1 :) I would add a little bit. Switch the O/D ON

you are right Big_D. by mistake you can engage gear to R(Reverse) than N

i agree with you completely it is not a good thing to do i have first hand experience on that :P

No machan, the tranny doesn't let you switch from N to R without pressing the button on the gear lever. It's a safety feature. Well at least, it is on my car.

IIRC, you need to be pressing down on the brake too. Cos i'm sure whoever designed the A/T thought of this possibility.
