4dr56 Intercooler Turbo Engine

Hi guys,

Thanks for reading my post.

I'm searching for a recon' 4D56 Intercooler Turbo engine. Thankful if you could post the possible places that I can find one and the probable price with and without the gearbox (manual pls, I'm an addict)

Does anybody know a good mechanic who could do such an engine swap properly?

Out of curiosity Nilantha, Does Rosa buses come with 4D56 engines? Don't you think they are tad underpowered to hurl such large weight?

Rosa's got 4M50,51,50T and 4D33,34 etc 4D56s way too under-powered for Rosas ha ha

on Rosa busses yes.. but the old canter which came with 40 series plates had the 4DR5 engine with a different low ratio gearbox 'n final drive if i'm not mistaken and mislead

btw very help full information miniace..

Early Canters came with 2.7l 4cyl 4DR5s and 6s and as well as Mitsubishi 'Jeep' series.Rosa engines starting 3.2l and goes 5.2l (4M51s) range.Way high on capacity than DRs.

Pajeros,L200s,L400s were fitted with 4D56s which isam inquired.

Miniace, does Mr Mahinda specialise in the supply of Mitsubishi Engine parts as well as Mitsubishi engines ?

early rosas did come with the 4dr5. i asked one driver who's got a pristine 1st gen rosa. he said it comes with a 4dr5 and the engine was, i recall a 2.3. i'm guessing it was probably 2.7 like you said. but i doubt he got the engine code wrong.

can't be 2.3 for sure, it should be 2.7. I was under the impression that early Rosa and Canter both were on the same platform..

He is a Mitsubishi parts specialist /supplier.He supplies stuff to many reputed companies including the biggest name associated with Mitsubishi .

Guys! Canters and Rosas share common engines chassis and drive train.So its obvious Rosas came with 4DR5s.

Here we talk and member-Isam inquired about 4D56 intercoolers not 4DRs.Two engines are different from all common sharings.

it so happened that I'm on the lookout for a 4D56 Turbo engine with an automatic gear box for my L400 SpaceGear 4WD. As such the info on this thread is quite useful

BTW the L400 came with 2.5L 4D56 Turbo engine to start with (1994-1995) then got upgraded to 2.8L 4M40 Intercooler Turbo from late 95. Mine is a 4D56. Does anyone know whether a 4M40 will fit on the same mounting points on the chassis?

and also, any decent place / bloke around Colombo who can do a good engine swap job?

Yes the good news is the 4M swap is possible.The bad news is its too expensive and complicated.If handle by a greenhorn or an inexpert, its to be expected of losing the value of the entire vehicle.Only few successful swaps I have seen, majority messed by garages/workshops and marked for sale on weekend papers.

We have talked a lot about good locations in and around Colombo in different threads.Try to locate places I have recommended .

Can give you a contact. In fact the bloke tried to sell me an engine of a Space Gear instead of the jeep engine. He will do the engine swap as well. PM me if u r interested.

Anyone knows the difference between the Mitsubishi 4DR5 and the 4DR6 engines. both are 2.7l engine right? can anyone shed some light please? thanks in advance!

4DR6 is the turbo version i guess..

Both 4D55 and 4D56 came in as Turbo and non-turbo.

The turbo versions has the engine code 4D56T - the trailing 'T' denotes that its a turbo engine.

4D55 Displacement - 2346 cc

4D56 Displacement - 2476 cc

Turbo versions has different compression ratios

yup 5 = NA & 6=Turbo was what i was once told by someone who'd done an engine swap

not sure about capacity though , but thought it was more like 2500cc

anyone care clarify?

AFAIK 4DR5 is 2700CC. so 4DR6 should be the same. if it's the same as 4DR5 block with Turbo.

Guys,

finally i found something after hours of googling. thought of sharing it with all of the Forum members,

"4DR6 turbo direct injection engine is derived from 4DR5 2.7 Liter naturally aspirated engine. The head is modified to whirlpool type combustion chamber for direct injection system (Compression ratio 17.5) to produce maximum power, torque and fuel efficiency of 15.5km/liter or 36.6 miles / US gallon. Turbo is a Mitsubishi Heavy Industries waste gate equipped TD04 type turbocharger."
