When does the 2nd phase of the Nugeogoda flyover begin. Does anyone know.

Heard that the Dehiwala flyover work starts by around March 15th.

Also does anyone have any latest updates on the express way work going on and also about the Base Line road extension work.

If anyone has any new pics please do post them.

what 2nd phase??

i keep wondering whether Dehiwala Jun actually needs that or not?!

...i was making mental notes of where & where a set of traffic lights might be useful , but i've managed to forget now

The second phase is supposed to add two more lanes.. While passing by last Sunday, saw that the area near the temple and shed on the Colombo side is being cleared and some foundation work has begun. Probably that is where the next two lanes are coming up..

Regarding the Dehiwala fly over, I feel it is a timely need specially after getting stuck in the traffic every Friday evening all the way from Williams junction to the Dehiwala junction, I just can't wait for the fly over to come up. One specially bad day, I had to travel from Bamba to Dehiwala without shifting to the second gear even once..

Yes, I thought the Nugegoda is done and complete, and that's all they are gona make??? long as the buses can keep to there lane and not permitted to overtake ( Y would there be a need to do so if all of them are on a shedule), one bus turning to right to overtake another will hold so many other vehicles

According to Access Engineering Ltd website Nugegoda Flyover project is completed.No one is talking about a PhaseII (not even the Road Development Authority web).

initial plan was to add two more lanes later just like how they did it in Kalaniya. don't know weather this has been scrapped now. buildings in the side of the road was cleared with this in mind. so i doubt they'll scrap it especially when there's chance for certain individuals to make some more extra pocket money. but in this banana republic anythings possible.

chargers for southern highway was disclose today in the parliament. so i'll take it it'll be open for public soon. if i remember right chargers for small vehicles is rs.3 per km and for big ones rs.6

Well the only way they can widen the current overhead in Nugegoda is only if they ad lanes on either side of the current one.

Well it seemed like they were beginning some construction work at least on the side where McDonald car park is.. Just keep an eye on it while you enter from Galle Road side and turn right..

there doesn't seem to be enough run off on either side for both constrction and vehicular traffic

same story with the space in front of FAB almost directly opposite that

rather confused by what they intend to do now...

i heard that the space under the bridge is going to be used for parking?

so how do they go about collecting the toll on the basis of kms travelled?

tkt issued at the starting point and more toll booths & every exit which bill you is it?

there are cars parked under the kelaniya one..mostly by the businesses that are run there....it's the least they can do,speacially after most businesses went bust after they built the fly-over covering those poor blokes's shops...

what happened to bel way? im gutted how it changed the whole drama of getting past that big traffic jam in the evenings. sorry im just a bit sentimental about these things.

has anyone got pics of the nugegoda flyover? cos i didnt see anything after october

anyhoo going through the various speed limits that are to be implemented on those so called expressways i couldnt help but wonder what sort of police oppression could we expect.

i mean i doubt those speed guns work past 120 km/h

Didnt know that the southern expressway was a toll highway.

It will be interesting to see how they will implement the charges for the distance travelled.

Also wonder what would the ristrictions be, will they allow private busses on the express way as well.

Any news of the Katunayake expressway.

Highways and Road Development Minister T.B. Ekanayake told Parliament yesterday that the Government through the Expressway Authority will charge a toll from Southern expressway users.
A toll of Rs. 3 (per km) will be charged from users of light vehicles while Rs. 6 (per km) will be charged for medium vehicle users. Meanwhile, Rs. 9 (per km) will be charged from heavy vehicle users.

"Vehicle users will be charged by a toll during every journey when they use the expressway," he said.

The Minister was responding to an oral question by JVP MP Ajith Kumara.

He said the Asian Development Bank, Japan International Cooperation Agency and the Nordic Development Fund will provide financial provision to construct the Southern Expressway. He said the initial estimated cost for the project is Rs. 21 billion. Work on the expressway is due to be completed by 2010.

Meanwhile, the Road Development Authority is monitoring work of the project on behalf of the Government.

bel-way is still there machan,seems to be benifiting from the extra parking space,but still not thriving...and the other shops close to it went bust.

hmm i wonder how they'll catch us on the motorways. its not like they can sit on the hard shoulder and stop us like they may on a normal road. and i doubt they'll give a chase. though trying to outrun them on such good roads would be quite a thrilling prospect

another thing. we gonna have a whole new breed of tuners trying to max out their cars on the straighter sections. we are no short of 250km/h+ stock and modded cars in sl anyways

bel way is a restaurant right next to the kelaniya railway crossing. and they serve great food. this is in no way an advertisment. but i'm sure they could use some now that its hidden underneath that flyover

i doubt that going to stop them from trying!
