big city, mbk, discovery and siam centre are good spots to start with... If it isn't illegal in thailand, i'm pretty sure you might find one in one of these malls...

but don't take my word for it :P

We don't need it any more, do we?

I think thats temporary. Injunction, AFAIK.

temporary or not i dont think its worth buying them. cos if it detects the radar that means the radar has already got locked onto ur car. so the chances are u'll still get caught. maybe the guy in front of u will get caught. but we hardly get caught trailing behind someone else do we? i think the biggest confusion over this matter is that there are sat navs that warn the drivers of approaching speed cameras. cos they already have data on all the speed camera locations. n they cant warn u about cops unless someone has already informed them of a mobile radar location. and non of that is available in sl. so as i said radar detectors dont really work that well. u r better off investing on a radar jammer.

why waste your money on small gadjets..in SL all drivers are like one big family..if I see a cop with a speed gun..I inform all rides coming my way..we all know d signel ;) most of the other drivers du the same..even bus drivers..well if u r driving down a lonly road Hard luck.

i think its better to drive slow than buying gadjets.. Speed Thrills but Kills

Nope radar gun will take few seconds (2-3 secs) to get the reading, if ur doing 70-90 kph u may be able to slow down before they got a reading but not probably when ur doing 140+ :violent-smiley-099: .

However laser guns gives instant readings but I don't think SL cops using it. Most cops have Xa band radar gun. I think radar jammers are illegal ( even in US where radar detectors are not illegal).

I too personally feel that dumping money on a Radar Detector is not really worth in sl also we have the conventional method which helps sometimes as well as some guys mentioned.

thanks for clearing that up. so as you say if the sl cops only use radars and there's a chance of slowing down before the radar locks onto you it wont be a bad investment at all.

as for the jammer its for lasers and its disguised as a garage door opener. i dont think it would be hard to get one through the customs. however it'd be useless if the sl cops dont use laser devices.

actually these things have really helped so many folks people... :)

i'm sure a lot can vouch for it...

the radar gun doesn't necessarily have to "targeting" your car for it to go off...

say if the cops have the gun on few hundred meters ahead of you on another guy...your detector will pick it up and save 1100 bucks and a lotta hassle...

get away 10 times and you've covered your costs :)

SL Cop radars are K/Ka bands. Also I've read on most radar detector review sites those so called 'radar jammers' are just a marketing gimmick and they actually don't work.

You mean they are going to be back with those guns on the roads in the future... :o

I dunno. Possibly. If they win whatever case that caused the injunction to be issued :) It not like its been banned.

basically the SC ordered the police to set up new speeding limits depending on the ares and new signs warning drivers about the speed limits. something they are yet to adhere to. the minute they complete this task the speed guns will be back in action.

Is it confirmed that currently cops are not using speed guns?

i have a cobra detector.,. works quite well... only thing is its a 9 band.. so it picks up GSM towers as well.. quite annoying sometimes.. but there is a city mode which reduces the detection quite a bit..

it has helped me in baseline several times..

  • 2 weeks later...

i'm not sure if you've discussed this matter already. but i found out that the chief magistrate or someone rather has ordered the police not to use speed guns anymore. well it seems this has happened quite a while back and reason for this has been when some driver who was to be charged with speeding was presented at the court the police have failed to provide the time and date when the offence took place. so until such facilities can be implemented i.e. the police obtains speed guns with such options we can drive around peacefully without worrying we'll get caught doing 75 in a 70 soon (notice the sarcasm) :P
