Also guys is the Steering on Peugeot's stiffer than Japanese cars. I know the car is heavy.. but you shouldn't feel it right.

It's a matter of preference. When the steering is very light its hard to get any feel and so you are detached from what the car is doing when in motion. Peugeots are generally good drivers cars and so it's only natural that they have weightier steering. At high speed over light steering can be dangerous IMO. You need weight and you need to feel the grip from the tires thru the steering. Then you know when its getting close to its limit.

Also can't recall now, but I doubt that the 406 was very heavy for the class..... Need to double check though.

We Sri Lankans have been brought up on a diet of Japanese econo-boxes for a long long time. Therefore some of us tend to have these wrong notions.

For example the E90 BMW 3 series is one of the lightest cars in its class. Though most of will think that German = Heavy.

Guys can you please tell me what are things to look out for when buying a Peugeot 406. I know i should have asked this earlier. Like what are the common things that could go wrong, and something like a checklist from your experiences.

There are so many cars out there and many of them have not been serviced at the right intervals or by people without any knowledge etc and could be a load of trouble waiting to happen. So be very very choosy.

If you can find a Brand new Import with agents maintenance records and one or two owners only then those would be the most attractive IMHO.

Or else if you have the patience buy one at a crazy low price and get it into shape by spending some dough. When I say crazy low, I mean LOW. Was offered a D9 HDI G-reg for 12.50 and open for neg. Now that looks like a crazy bargain doesn't it?

I was told it's at Senkadagala Finance. A seized vehicle. This was some time back but worth a check up. Hopefully the engine has not seized as well :D

Guys, thank you for all the help advices, information you all provided. Now I am a proud owner of a Peugeot 406. I was in doubt about taking the Peugeot path but you all helped me make my decision. Once again thank you.

Hey congrads! You did a risk return calculation and went for it. Most of the members here only look at the risk and collapse. You will move forward for sure. Excellent example. All the best with the lovely car!

Hey guys.

bought a 406 finally. special thanks to Sifaan and Harshan  everything is great except for the a/c air vents and cd player. the vents seem to be loose and pop out when moved. where can i buy these vents? and also the cd player takes in the cd and rejects after few seconds. wanted to know if i can fix a player with USB input without messing up the faceplate and steering controls.
