Just to add a point....Out of the new beemers...my eyes always turn towards the 650i (http://www.bmwusa.com/vehicles/6)....man now that looks awesome.....leaves the new 7 series in the dust me thinks!!!!

PS. Can someone please explain to me what does "Sequential Manual Gearbox" means...the 650i has it and i have no idea what it is....love cars but not much knowledge about technicalities..thanks

Its the same as a sequential box, but they have made it sound better. aka "Sequential Manual Gearbox"

Its like in the F1 and the WRC cars. Has been around for a while really in many cars. It makes gear shange much quicker. like in motor bikes, an up down technology as opposed to the classic H shape in cars.

to shift up (+) u pull the lever back and to shift down(-) the lever is pushed forward. you can call it semi automatic, no clutch for the driver (but there is a clutch mechanism inside the gerabox- seperate issue),

but also comes with clutch in some cars.

very expensive type of gear box.

yup stock cars but it seems the stock 7 (new version) still looks gud

correction abt the DTM...if i remember rite they sold out a long time ago...only available second hand now <_< if ur lucky enuf to convince an owner to part wit it that is :(

SMG is BMW's version of constant variable transmission or CVT as u wud've seen on newer automatic cars...popularly referred to as tiptronic...givs u the feel of manual shiftin minus the clutch...IMO its for lazy folk :P jk tho it does save time shiftin gears n thus laptime

machan they seem to update this site pretty rgulaly, but these guys at AMG say thety have 100 units made. don't know if they are sold (probably)...if they are sold or booked why not say so...huh http://www.mercedes-amg.com/

Coool...thanks Shak and Overdrive for the Explanation....Its an ideal gearbox for us Sri Lankans....We are Naturaly Lazy!!! j/k No Nationalists here i hope :(

Nah man, its not good for lazy ppl. For ex, one of my friends drives using 1,3,5 most of the time, car got enough power that there is no need to hit 2nd before hitting third. Cant do that with this sorta thing. Also, imagine cruising on 5th and comming to a turn off (say need to put to a lane from galle road) then with these things u need to tap, tap, tap to hit 2nd, where in normal manuals u can just drop it into the 2nd. <_<

Tiptronic isn't great. Better than auto, but not as good an a stickshift :P

Yeah, this is NOT going the way I expected it. Ppl don't buy 7s or S's for speed or the vroom factor after all. U buy these to go comfortably in the back seat, and if the driver gets frisky, u yell at him :D Other factors than performance on this class of competition.

How about the size factor in the maybach, isnt it larger than the rest?!

there r two versions...the 57 n the 62...5.7m long n 6.2m long respectivly...these cars arent ur typical limo where u'd hav seats facin each other at d back...its jus two seats at d back wit extendible leg rests...damn spacious n d kind folks at daimler let u touch too :D but im not a fan of its looks

Guess you normally copy the "Thumbnail for forums" link and paste, right...

There is another link under the center picture called "Hotlink for forums (1)"

and "Hotlink for forums (2)", you can copy any of these links and paste on the forum... so we will get the full image....

The other day i was reading the Autocar magazine and they had an article.

"The burning question....

WHO MAKES THE BEST CAR IN THE WORLD?

It used to be Mercedes. Its not any more"

The contenders were

Bentley Continental flying spur

Daimler super eight (JAG)

Merceds Benz S600

RR Phantom

After weighing all the pro's and cons price, cabin comfort, quickness, sence of presence...

Bentley.. WON!!

and there was no BMW??
