Welcome to autolanka first of all :)

and second, 1.5 to 2.0 million is a fairly busy price band. There are literally dozens of different cars that fall into that bracket all of which are excellent cars in different ways. So for us to be able to give you a clear answer, please state what you're looking for out of your potential purchase. That way we can help you pick out a good choice.

Sorry for not giving more specific details since i am in Kindergarten for the Automobile subjects.

I am willing to learn from all of u friends.

I have heard Toyota and Nissan are the best selling cars in SL.

If it is true, what are the best , fuel efficient Toyota, Nissan car models i can buy for the above price range?

(YOM after 2000)

You will be able to find Nissan Sunny FB-15, or Toyota corolla which are very common cars in Sri Lanka.

But if you are looking for car with little bit of sporty orientation and action you can go for Civic/RS - 99/00 model with English numbers. And this machine will give you much better fueil eifficieny and excitment compare to FB-15.

Apart from above there are wide range of options available for your budget.

check this one looks good.

Well since you appear to be totally new to this... I guess the best option would be the good old favorites the Toyota corolla or the Nissan Sunny. Both of those can provide peace of mind and completely trouble free motoring if you find a good one.

My suggestion is to find a late model Corolla AE110. Those can easily be picked up within budget and if you find one that has been taken care of properly (not that difficult to do) you will have a very good car.

Thank u MKX for ur reply

The car in the AD is Honda CIVIC FERIO EK3.YOM is 1999.registered in 2002.

Is this considered as a good car in SL?

Millage is 116000, can this be considered as a normal millage for this car?

What is the average yearly millage for a family driven vehicle?

What about spare parts for Honda Civic in SL?

Are the freely available, expensive?

Sorry for asking u so many Q's.

Please reply me if u have time.

Thank u.

Could u tell me the latest model of Corolla AE110?

What is the capacity of the engine i should go for? (1500 cc?)

Can u tell me the average fuel consumption of that model?

Yup Civic Ek3 is a good car.

The mileage is Okay Cause its 10 years old nah

It depends on te owner. If he goes Outstation the mileage would be more. Our 2 cars do only about 6k Per year :D while 1 of my friend covers about 25k per year

The spares are quite expensive

They are Freely available.

What do you mean "Latest model"? well the last ones were manufactured in 2000/2001 after which they were replaced by the corolla 121. A 1500 engine is the most common option in SL and that motor is pretty bulletproof, so its a good deal. From what I know fuel economy is around 10 to the liter in town and 13-14 outstation for the 1.5 liter.

As others have mentioned, the Nissan Fb15/N16 is also a good choice, all of them will be newer models than the above mentioned corolla, as theher corollas have a higher market value in SL, and the N16 specially is more modern looking than the boxy corolla. Maintenance and parts will not be an issue for either cars, everybody knows them and most/all parts are freely available.

The honda civic is also an oft mentioned choice in this bracket, and as has been pointed out you can get a good one for well within your price range. The Ek3 is the version most often seen in that range, they were made from 1995-2000 and the 2000 model year ones are rare-ish so if the whole year of manufacture thing is important to you, that would be a slight issue. Otherwise its a good car, ride comfort is marginally less than the toyotas but it makes up for this by being marginally more interesting to drive. Parts availability is good but perhaps not quite as good as the Toyota or Nissan, and parts prices tend to be a little bit higher for hondas, perhaps because there are fewer suppliers than for the other two.

Also, If you'd like to be a bit different to the herd, you could go for a late model Mazda 323/Familia. You'll be able to get plenty of these within your price range and they are also superb cars, the best to drive out of all of the above and to my eyes the nicest looking as well. The Mazda brand tends to be misunderstood in Sri Lanka now because the agents are terrible, but there is a good independent specialist now and also a very supportive and active owners club (active here on Autolanka as well) that can help you out. So do consider the Mazda option seriously as well.

You have already got a reply. but I will add little more.

Yes - EK3 is considered a V.Good car in Sri Lanka

116000 Milage is quite Ok. (i've heard Honda engines does even 400K if you treat her well)

My normal daily office drive give me 4000Km + another 2000Km with other travelling so in my case it will be around 6000Km - 8000Km max. But this will very subjective matter.

Spares - Must be available and Staf.Mot also does good job it seems, but will be little expensive than Toyotas i guess.

BTW Ad i quote is non VTEC, and if you can see this one, it looks like a well treated car (never know to me though).

http://www.autolanka.com/ad.asp?ID=14394

Another point about your budget 1.5M - 2M. With this budget you can go to any 1996 - 2000 EK3 model. But if you really have no probs in spending 1.6M - 2M, you can easily go for topping condition 99/00 car with VTEC engine and English plates. I recommend you to have look at the RS in above link also. I can see there is original Navigation system as well.

May be you will be able to find a member in forum who is familer with the car.

Funny how this particular car seems to get plugged in numerous threads on quite a regular basis. The owner and/or the car clearly has a lot of fans here, though apparently none that are willing to put their money where their mouth is, so to speak. Don't mean to offend.. just sayin <_<

honda has built so many millions of VTEC units and none have failed due to factory faults. VTEC is a blessing (in terms of performance) on a honda and not a concern. manual civic EK3 with a VTEC(SOHC) unit is almost as fast as a 155hp 2 liter primera P11 on a straight line and is as frugal as your average corolla.

but your father is right toyota's have lower running costs than honda. i have been using a honda and a toyota over the past 5 years.

civic ek3 = good balance between excitement and economy

similar toyota = more economical to run than civic ek3 but less exciting

The owner has lots of friends here. Happens when you are social and helpful. And you meet up with people in the Real World, not just online

Aww.. that's precious ^_^

Thought there was a fairly hard and fast rule about promoting cars that are for sale though, directly or by proxy.. as with many things, I guess it depends on who you know
