Buying A Vehicle Which Has "open Papers"

What should be the documents i should collect from seller if i'm going to buy a vehicle which has Open Papers...?

You need to get the MTA6 signed by the registered owner AFAIK

Well I think he signs the MTA6 and you sign the MTA8. But maybe I'm wrong

You're right. But in the case of 'open papers', the person selling it is not the registered owner, so there's always a risk that the information on the open MTA6 will not match with what is with RMV. Best is to have it checked at RMV, but you will need some inside help for that. I've bought many vehicles on 'open papers' and never had a problem. But I know people who've had trouble with open papers. There's always a risk.

to complete the documentation u need followings.

*Original CR

*Original VIC

*M.T.A.6= (Open 6) signed by the current owner of the CR

*Original revenue licence

seller said that he can give the M.T.A.6, is that enough for the transfer?

Anyway wht is CR & VIC stands for..?

CR- Certifacte Of Registration (also called the book)

VIC - Vehicle Identity Card (applicable only to English numbers)

If the MTA6 is filed to match the CR then you "shouldn't" have any issues. As the CR is printed off system should match the records right?

Although you have the R/C & the MT6 matches to the R/C, how will you know the signature is correct. Best thing is ask the guy who is selling the car, to take you to the registered owner & get his signature in the MT6. Or else ask the guy to transfer the car to his name & get the MT6 signed by him. please do not take risk.
