Hello,

My metal silencer keeps rusting off. I have used up two silencers for the last 5-6 years. My third one is almost gone too.

Now I am thinking of fixing a stainless steel one (not the piping). Nothing fancy, just a normal silencer. Car is a Trad Sunny Wagon.

Any ideas on a good place to get it done? Prices?

Tks.

well the best place would be elcardo... professional and experince wise..but there are places in delkanda also u can try.. wont cost u much if its just the back box.. another good place is next to the pamankada bridge.. the first one near the bridge does a good job for simple stuff...

Sir,

I recommend next to Pamankada Bridge there two or three Silencer repair work shops I have got work from all those shops The First one on the right hand side is the best repair shop for my knowledge he will do a S/S job for you his charges too was reasonable when I got my job done last year.

Dear All,

My car silencer gives out a Brr sound in low RPM but not as serios as fully damaged silecer. The guy who looked at this said may be the chambers of the muffler are damaged. If it happened to be replaced, what are the things to be considered in replaceing the muffler? Can we actually trust locally made silencers? I've seens lot of small places when I drive on Kandy road who sell silencers and do rapairs.

Not every local guy does a smart job as you really don't have a clue what is inside these locally built muffler (silencer barrel in local context) What can be done is get hold of a trustworthy place either through contacts or based on a recommended job. Question them on their knowledge in building this muffler unit as I've met some blokes, who didn't have any clue what they were doing.

Second alternative is opt for a used one. Some silencer repairing places do have used ones brought down from Japan and Delkanda spare parts joints too would have used ones. Can be a better solution if you come across a good one, but you never know how bad/corroded the inside is. Shake the barrel well for any sounds of broken particals inside is the usual method of checking a used one FYI.

Another option is to pay little extra (premium) and go to a well reputed place and whom are specialized in doing this.

Thank you for your advice. do you know any reputed place who are specialized in designing good quality durable silencers and do repairs? or even PM me.

issue with the quality of SS? if it is purely ss then it is ok. check with a magnet if it not magnetite then it is pure SS with less chromium.
