Hello Friends!

Can anyone advise what would be the outcome of a car that had been submerged in fresh water floods for 5 days? What part should be replaced and what parts can be re-used? What is likely to go wrong? If especially the battery was taken out before the car went underwater? The scenario is the car could not be taken out for safety in time...

List of parts:

:(

Throtle position sensor

Idle Speed sensor

O2 Sensor

Fuel pump

Fuel Filter

Injector Assembly

Ignition coil assembly

Spark plugs

Timing belt

Timing Adjuster

Timing Idler

High tension leads

PCV Valve

Air Filter

Oil Filter

Clutch plate

Clutch bearings

Clutch slave silinder

Clutch master pump

Clutch cover

Computer box

Please advise.

Thanks!

Is your insurance company handling this? You haven't mentioned how far the car was in the water. I assume you don't mean COMPLETELY submerged? In which case it would most likely be an insurance writeoff.

 This seems very interesting. What did you do with your vehicle. Are you trying to make some kind of land/water type car? or you were testing wheather a car can swim?

Well it is a genuine case of floods where it flooded where no floods had taken place before..

The water level rose upto a little over the dashboard this took place during the night when the whole area went under water as everyone watched helplessly. The car is a 1999 Hyundai accent. No Insurance!

Really sorry mate, but this is a situation that's normally a total loss.

Guys,

There were lot of tsunami affected cars restored ( but not in the best condition though)

I think this car can be put back in operation. Hope that no body tried to start the car yet.

A good cleanup will do.

Be positive bro!!

I can understand wanting to save the car, I would want to as well. But it will be unfair on whoever buys the car in future, as they are setting themselves up for a potential disaster if flood damage history is not enclosed. Even a 1999 Hyundai will have a fair amount of electronics allover the place, including under the floor boards, seats, boot, etc., that would have got flooded. That's not even considering all the other problems, and the corrosive effect that the flood water might have had. This is not the kind of work that should be attempted by any Maka baas or average mechanic. If there's a Hyundai agent in town, better try and get their opinion.

In any case, I'm curious as to what a 1999 car was doing without insurance (or are we seeing the effects of third party insurance that some people were campaigning for so strongly fairly recently on this board?).

True, what we are looking at is well above 1M personal property, and if the floods were not saline, I belive a good detailed cleaning after stripping down in to bits and pieces might help. Also there is a good reliable service provided by Kl**n P*rk for rust proofing.

Regarding the electronics there are people competent in that as well, since all those gadgets may not need replacements, and even a complete engine SWAP might not cost huge amounts.

I would say the car can be back on road, in reliable condition -but after spending one or two hundred thousands.

I would say worth it!

Nothing to be curious of. Third party insurance is becoming popular because of the GREEDY INSURANCE COMPANIES which suck and feed on the blood and bone marrow of poor car owners. :violent-smiley-030:

Don't forget to perform some major cleaning on all the interior trim and the cushion. You could get seriously ill just sitting in that thing considering what the seats soaked up.

You can recover this car and use it without a problem unlike one that gets submerged in sea water. You must just make sure you dont start the engine before all the necesary parts are cleaned. You certainly need the hands of a good mechanic (if not an automobile engineer). Clean P@rk can do a good job do get the interior back in shape. All the best

Heard insurance premiums are going to go down soon in line with the new taxes.

Yes indeed, Dont start until all the wiring, the sensors, alternator, starter motor and all other motors are cleaned and oil is changed. Delco will hv to be replaced. After a good clean up it will be far better than those cars frequently exposed to sea mist along the coast line.

ha ha ha you gusy are funny. Everytime price of something goes up you think its due to sellers fault or greead. Just think for a minuite what variables have changed for the price diference and who's truely responsible before pointing fingers.
