Adding An Extran Radiator Fan Pros & Cons

Hi guys,

Can what are the problems that might occur if I put an additional radiator fan?

I felt more power when the temperature meter indicates abt 1/4 of the total angle from the start. But normally it moves a little more towards the hot zone. And I felt a little drop of power. So I taught of putting an additional radiator fan.

And also I think since my ride was a recon one and the cooling system was designed to suite the env. conditions in Japan. And also if every thing works fine then the cooling system should cut off the power to the motors when the engine reaches the working temperature, avoiding it to drop the temperature more.

So guys what do U thing abt it.

And my rode is a Mazda BG3P and still ID didn't got any overheating problem :angry-smiley-048:

IMO dont think this is a good idea- you could end up with an 'under-heated' engine, which could cause just as much trouble and damage as an over heated one.

It maybe worthwhile to check if the thermostat is functioning right, if you feel there is a heating issue in the car.

For an increase in power you will be better off with a Cold Air Intake with the whole cone filter setup.

Adding an additional fan will not solve your problem. Fans are only good for up to about 40 mph [~65 kmh]. Anything beyond that speed, the incoming rush of air is more than what the fans can push/pull.

That said, the environment conditions in Japan will have no affect of how your car is built. They are all built to operate in a variety of climate conditions from freezing to extreme heat. All cars are made to be able to handle the temperature variances. Further, Sri Lanka is not that much hotter than Japan during summer.

I think your best bet is to root cause the issue and address it rather than adding a fan. First and foremost, make sure the obvious things are not malfunctioning. i.e. temp gauge, thermostat, water pump in good condition with no damage to the bearing, clogged radiator fins etc... Your problem most likely is caused by water flow problem. Also inspect the radiator fins from the outside and make sure that they are not overly bent or clogged with foreign debris blocking the air from passing through the radiator.

Good luck.

Hi Mate

Usually engines performs well better when it is hot rather than it is cold, you might have some other problem when your engine get hotter (ex :- Some Ignition coil packs fails when they are hotter than usual or with the life time of it)

so installing a another radiator fan will not solve your problem, becs engine performs well better efficiently when the engine is hot, don't let it to go for hotter side(boiling states).

usually engine temperature gauge sits on the middle of the vehicle or bit lesser than it on lot of vehicles(that is normal) even if it is going beyond that will not harm you unless you avoid keeping it within the danger area(red color usually),

if you can post a pic i will explain it properly .

thanks

Regards

Sorry for going OT but it seems that you took your ride into a track after the new mods. ;)
