It's gravel man.. free for all! all depends on the driver and a bit of bad luck here and there!

Well done St. Petersburg!

wow surprising. hey i thought this was tarmac, aint it

but apprently dineshs car has had a techical fault in the 3rd and 4th stage with a blown turbo. and he also has clocked the fastest timing on the final stages with a new turbo.

Dinesh Deheregoda told me that he had a software error in ecu which caused rev limit to 4000rpm. he happen to run 4 stages with this fault. Also caused this error to seize his turbo and ended up with max 65kmph speed during stage 3 to stage 6.

he able to fix the software error & fix his spare turbo during saturday night and won all 3 stages held on sunday [ stage 7 to 9 ] and become to overall 5th place from 16th place where 3 stages ago.

Well boys I am back, it was just absolutely awesome!!! I must say I was shitting bricks the first run we did as Sajad let it rip. He pushed the EG all the way and we were loosing the tail so much it actually felt like a Subaru. He handled it like a toy though so I felt comfortable and I knew for sure god willing the man new to get out of any tricky situation.

A-B - 15.3 K's & likewise B-A

We had three stages : two day stages and one night stage, each stage comprising of three races back and forth. The night was perticularly tricky as it poring and we infact slid and got stuck in a ditch. If not for loosing 2 minutes there it would have been Honda 1.2. & 3!! Damn it.

We also did a beautiful 360, U.C perera has got it on cam and since it was a perfect 360 we did not loose much time..Dinesh and Rizvi Farouk were battling it out afterwards. They were neck to neck and the last run before the final Rizvi had gained 12 secs on Dinesh and that meant if Dinesh J screwed up Rizvi would have beaten him..According to the co-driver Dinesh's last run was a like a death wish. Pls see table the B16A's did very well. Actually Rizvi got the fastets timing for Honda's.

Deheragoda - was on safety mode on the night rides, some computer problem ........

The highlight of course was the EG single carb - It was pushed so hard we managed to do a 9.04 on the last run!! Overall we were 22 secs slower than Riyaz F and 51 secs quicker than Dinesh J

KLM -Thanks for the tips, I got my pace notes spot on. The ricky or recky? runs helped a lot as well.

I am not sure how that conclusion was arrived at?? even at 65ks your running probably 20ks slower than what the rest of the class cars except what the tops 4 were driving. The track itself had very little straights, three runs of about 400mts max and to give you an example we just about hit 110k when we approached finish where as Deheragoda was hitting 210km. There is no doubt the best lap he put in was brilliant and hats off for that but overall he was no

Apart from the top three and S.Suraweera everyone else were less than 100HP stock. Pls see the list Dinesh beat, Sajad was ahead and like I said his driving was handicapped with bad tyres, he was like Nige on the road loosing the tail all over the place.

Dinesh Deheragoda SL GT Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution IX GT

Shantha Suraweera SL H 3500 Subaru Impreza WRX

Ameen Dean SL H 3500 Toyota Startlet GT Turbo

Rizvi Farook SL A 1600 Honda Civic V - Tec

Rohan de Silva SL A 1600 Honda Civic

Mansur Hassen SL A 1600 Ford Lazer

Randeer Rodrigo Laser 1500 Ford Lazer

Kumar Samarasinghe SLN 10-12 Mazada 323 GLX

Prasana De Alwis Laser 1500 Ford Lazer

U.C.Perera Laser 1300 Ford Mc Foil

Rohan Fonseka SLT&J - Open Misubishi Pajero "Catseye" Turbo

Mudilage Wickramasinghe Mini Austin Mini

K Balasingam Mini Austin Mini Clubman

Cheers

Interesting comment. I thought Subarus have an tendency to understeer, whereas "loosing the tail" seems to make it look more like oversteer?.... Or u just mean it was fish-tailing all over?... Hard to imagine a Sub doing that too with AWD.... hmmm hummm.... Something I'm not getting here.... Need to check with the Subaru boys...

Yeah subaru's do tend to under steer (stock)

I suppose he means it drifts like a scoobi in gravel!!

ya as i knew Subarus understeered... but then again since it was tarmac i guess a Front Wd Hondas might act in both ways (oversteer & understeer)

me curious to find out about this too :action-smiley-060:

Yep, that was what I meant. Sorry for being ambiguos!

Although it was tarmac - 1/5th of the stretch was technically gravel and there was lots of sand on the road when it was not wet that made it perticularly difficult to drive. Overall everyone drove well.

Rohan De Silva - Blew his engine on the first day and they had a new engine brought from Colombo the same day and fitted only for the geer box to pack-up. Bad luck twas.

The mini's had a good time too..

On hindsight I should have got someone to take some pics, the entrance to the lodge we were staying at actually was facing part of the stretch that was perticularly tricky..Almost all of the cars had a time negotiating those corners.

I forgot to mention -They are apparently showing the highlights of the rally on DERANA Thursday at 08:00pm.
