Is It Ok To Go For A 407

Well that could depend on a variety of things. Petrol or deisel, mileage, interior and exterior condition, maintanance recordes, year of registration etc. I have heard that one variant has constant gear box problems which was rectified in the later models. However I heard the cost of ownership of a peugeot has come down over the years with certain experts popping out as alternatives to the horrid agents (Can't really recall the source of that information). Im sure peugeot experts in the forum can shed more light!!

Least price I heard a 407 went for is 3.3 mil. That was soon after the tax cut was announced. As of now, they're in the range of 4.2 mil to 7 mil depending on the fuel type and engine type. Recently I heard of a diesel one up for sale with 6.5 mil asking price.

As per mechanics and those who test drives, 2.2 ltr petrol version has the best power/weight ratio. 1.8 and even 2.0 ltr engines are tad bit underpowered due to the size of it's body. Better to stick to a petrol version although diesel version is extremely good at fuel consumption but otherwise in maintenance (common for euro diesels) initial pay out is also low for petrol version.

If I'm to list down issues reported so far,

Ride height of the front suspension is very low and agent is known to carry out suspension modifications (replacing both front coil springs) due to reported sump damages. front and rear suspension has to be looked after very carefully and suspension links known to fail frequently and cost of them is almost 4 times than the links of 406. A/C cooling efficiency is low compared to other europeans and even compared with 406 and pollen filter has to be replaced very frequently and due to the complex design external air intake flap cannot be disabled.

Driven a 407 once and it got me amazed on the handling improvements, driver visibility improvements and interior space improvements over 406. Superb vehicle with both exterior and interior design, features, safety and handling. But all comes with a high cost ownership. :)
