You are quite right. You boys (corolla, allion critics) are forgetting the fact that there's a group of people who can't afford to have a wedding in hotel with star ratings.

actually I (a "allion for wedding car" critic) am also one of the people who couldn't afford to spend much for the wedding. the idea of renting a car didn't even come up.

we actually used an allion, borrowed from a friend. if that hadn't worked out we would have used boss's B15, or BIL's N16, or something...

if we were going to PAY for a car, no way it would've been a Jap unless maybe Camry/Teana style of thing...

Not entirely. Milindu has one, tho that doesn't really count since its one among many :D One of my friends had one too, but he got that some years ago when it was still a fairly new thing to the country.

Thing is, its not that bad a car, if you just look at the car :) Its just the money thats paid for it, in a market with plenty of choice ....

Its not the car also, and not the money spent for it as well... it the type of Drivers/owners who drive them (Milindu aside... :))

For instance 2 days back I was parked at a supermarket car park waiting for the matriarch to do some hunting/gathering inside on the shelves.

There was a thud and when I looked a shiny black 260 was parked and the goday looking nueve riche geezer who got out has slammed his door against the side of my car. Asswipe did not even acknowledge the fact that he knocked the car.

So what did I do? Knowing how long the Matriarch will take, I backed off again and parked the car in such a way that he will have to be an Oompa Loompa to get in the car again and I went inside my self and spent around 30 mins... When I came out he was standing with a furious look on his face trying to get in from the passenger side... ;)

Thats how you deal with these morons.

I smiled at him and backed off and went on my merry way.

If I were in the truck, it would have been a different story altogether.

Thanks for your all comments. My Max budget is 3ml. Don't u think 121 is out of date and anybody can easily find it. Can 't go for allion or merce W210. Difficult to find those less than 3 ml. So how about mazda exela. But It is little bit sporty shape. My purpose is use this car as a daily runner and earn some extra money to cover my lease.

appreciate your valuable comments

If you expect to hire it, it has to be a Merc. In addition to the the comments above, I highly doubt anyone would hire a non-Merc from a private individual. Merc, or some kinda classic.

But here is the thing. Any business, you need to determine if there is a market and make the business to cater to the market. Can't expect the market to conform to what you have to offer unless you have an absolute monopoly.

on a slight different note; have you actually considered the feasibility of the whole wedding hire business?

(questions like what is the going rate for wedding hire cars in your area? who serves that need? how much business do they do per month? how will you promote your services? who will drive the car when it's on a hire (is your work flexible enough that you can drive? or do u have to hire a driver?). when you adjust for time/cost of washing/interior clearning + maybe driver wages how much gross profit can you make per hire, etc.)

financially it might be more feasible to rent to tourists (definitely will be more demand in that sector) and that market is also more aligned to the cars within your budget. but you could end up without the car for extended periods, so dunno if you can live with that

I used to drive an allion 240 previously. Its a very good car in terms of reliability / comfort etc. The only thing i didnt like was it was too common. My car, which I still have at home is in brand new condition gleaming as ever with just 25,000 Km (2004 model). But most allion owners misuse their cars. I have seen cars with totaly discoloured lights, faded paints etc. If one is to invest a lot on a car you should also maintain it. Its not only allion owners, but owners of most other models tend to use their cars just as a means of transportation. Ofcourse they may have much higher priorities in life than us petrol heads but still some attention to your car (probably ur largest investment next to a house) would be nice!!!

Another happy Allion user... :)

Police detectives told a Mount Lavinia court today it was investigating whether a suspect who posed as a presidential advisor using a fake visiting card and a presidential secretariat sticker was attempting to harm the president.

Dissanayake Karunadasa alias Kanchana Pradeep was produced in court on charges of having obtained Rs.40,000 from the complainant Lakmal Kariyawasam on the pretext of being a presidential advisor.

Police said the address given by the suspect as that of his residence at 2nd Lane, Ratmalana was also false. He had been operating a business enterprise under the name “Y Entertainment” at Schofield Place in Kollupitiya was found to be have been closed some time ago.

They told court that the Toyota Allion car bearing registration number WP-JM 2822 used by the suspect had been obtained on lease. The vehicle was taken into police custody.

I think most of them fit this profile... living beyond their means at some poor buggers expense... ;)

I think its unfair and biased to label fellow allion owners based on one or few incidents...just because allion owners do not reply for these forums does not interpret they are absolute morons in their choice...either they are ignorant of a forum like this or they are not so IT savvy to reply in these forums. But they may have perfectly sound reasons to select this vehicle..

As a simple example, allion is one of the vehicles most sought after by professionals, who are buying it from a bank loan (I work in a bank..no statistical proof for this, but only day to day experience) True, there may be few ''goday mudalalis'' as called by you who buy the same thing, but I think that's the minority.

Machang, the only reason Allions sell fast is because of the Jones's Factor... :) Its an over priced Corolla... ;) and every Sarath, Wimal and Kamal wants it in their garage. To show Nimal and Mahinda next door.

But then as you can see, Allions makes the news for all the wrong reasons... I know a few wheeler dealers with no confirmed source of income who drives the NZT 260s around... :)

Didn't that Olcott fella also drive one? Or was it a Honda?

Posted

incidentally that infamous olcott fella had a Premio + Honde civic!!!! heartbreak for our Honda fans also :-)

anyway mate, I agree that allions have become a statement among certain sectors of society without any apparent logic, still there are many others who buy it for numerous other reasons which are not logical to you PETROLHEADS!! but again those reasons are same old fuel efficiency/better resale value etc which are relevant to basic transportation from point A to B. so jags/mercs/pugs for enthusiasts and jdms for the rest.....

unfortunately I also belong to the rest (imported an allion 1 week back)...love to be a petrolhead, but having certain other priorities.

What? What the rest of the world think of you? To feel better about yourself because you drive a Allion?

I am with you on this. So what if a 'goday mudalali' buy a Allion. If the man has made his money legitimately kudos to him for been able to afford 5 million rupee car. He should be admired for been able to reach such hights (assuming he’s a self made millionaire)What's with this comparison to Olcott? People should stay away from cars gangsters or figures that are look down upon by society use? In that case we can rule out all the luxury brand names and models as politicos got them all.

Hello......

Any comments...

Tks

Buy a 1960 series 2 Land Rover, It'll make an awesome going-a-way vehicle. 2200 cc Petrol engine will kick the Sh*t out of most other vehicles.. I have one parked at home, if you wanna have a look. B)

PERI: Just in case you need it for your wedding, give me a holler.. :D

I'd prefer a Range Rover Sport. The groom came in one to the church at a wedding I was photographing recently. :)
