nifty little SUV. Bought a 2000 turbo last week and I love it. Haven't noticed any major issues with the drivetrain other than the fact than my spark plugs need changing. Just make sure you put in 95 octane petrol and nothing else and if changing the plugs stick with NGK OEM plugs. From experience I've had a lot go wrong when sticking champions into a mitsubishi.

Oh yeah just remembered. Check your 4wd shifter. If it gets stuck it's probably a bad bushing. Found that out last week. The part cost it 1000.

Before you buy it - take it to the agent and have him check the injector pump pressure (high pump in the engine). At new its about 5 bar gradually decreases (common failure) and the moment it drops below 3 bar you have to get ready to fork out 75-120k on a second hand pump. Unfortunately its a recurring problem with this model and there's no permanent fix.

Using a 1998 Pajero IO since early 2008 as a second vehicle.

It is worth for the price around 2 million. Only 50,000KM on the clock when I bought it and was well maintained. So I didn't have to spend much on the maintenance. Also I don't drive on daily basis. Only the battery and tyres replaced.

My one has got some extras fitted like front and rear crash bars and side steps. I think these extras enhance the look as this is a small SUV.

The rear leg space is a problem and sitting on the rear seat is not comfortable. Has decent luggage space though. You can fold the rear seats so it increases the luggage space.

My one has got GDI engine, fuel consumption is decent. Gives around 8-9 Km/l long run. May not be economical for a daily runner.

Overall I am satisfied with this piece of machinery.

Wrong. Maybe that price range applies to the terios but IOs go between 2.0-2.5 million depending on the year and options (GDI, turbo etc.). Out of curiosirty, where did you see one for 1.6 million?

Is there a perception in the market about GDI engines being BAD!! ..So far I have not had issues with the GDI engine on my Lancer and I am very happy with the SMOOTHNESS and the POWER it gives me .....WHY does everyone go around saying " Is it a GDI..? Dont buy it...its bad for Sri Lankan conditions...etc..." All it needs is a proper maintenance and its all good under tha HOOD!!! ...

IF GDI is soo soo bad...why are all the manufacturers using GDI engines ....? :)

because no manufacturer builds cars thinking about the Sri Lankan market :)

(i.e. the fact that your engine spends so much time idling in traffic and the particle impurities in the fuel)

if GDI would sell well in Sri Lanka I'm pretty sure UML would've imported some!

when I was looking for a used car few months back even a good friend @ UML advised against GDI (as in, "if you can get the non-GDI version it's better")
