If you have a manual and those buttons on the steering wheel, that means your car was converted from auto/cvt to manual. The buttons won't do anything.

If it is the Sport mode, and if it is working, then you should notice better pickup and especially on the tachometer you would notice the gear changes will take place at higher RPMs than without. great for overtaking but more noise, vibration, engine wear and fuel consumption :)

S is for sports mode. Better pick up/ pulling power and higher fuel consumption. Car realy moves.

E is for economy mode, good in fuel but not in performance.

D is the normal drive mode.

This gear system is known a s multimatic.

This is the most likely scenario.. think I know this car too, remember checking one out a long time back, at a sale on Hill St. It was a manual but had these buttons on the wheel and the gear selection indicator in the center of the instrument cluster, obviously it didn't display anything but it was there, if you look closely between the speedo and rpm gauge. If indeed it is a conversion, it's half arsed as they haven't bothered to make the interior changes to match :action-smiley-060:

This is called Honda Multi matic. It controls the gear shift. see

I had a EK3 and the same thing was near the gear. But in Honda CRV it comes at the Steering as in your Civic. My Civic did 10/11 KMPL in city limits in E mode. if you want to go in higher speeds (or race  ) put it to S.

D is the normal gear shift as in all the other cars. But if your concern is the Fuel economy use E. If you use E, the gears will change in lower RPMs as you drive a manual one.

few members here gave the answer already. Not that it's suitable, but only can be used with/for an auto box.

In manual, you should have all three buttons with you, registered in your brain :)

Was it a silver one, with a wooden gear knob or something? <_<

this is odd !! did you buy the car recently? if yours is manual and you have this switch on the steering, either your tranny has been changed from CVT to manual without changing the steering wheel. or your car could be originally manual tranny and the previous owner has changed the steeering for some reason.

lol u guys don't get it... He is wondering why the same option is not available on his manual car and wants to implement it on his car ;)

Nope, he din't say the pic was of his car + he said his car is manual. Ok anyway, in that case, maybe he got this pic before he converted the car to manual ? :P
