Toyota, Mazda And Honda

Question

Posted

I have a plan in buying a car and my budget is 2.7 to 3.5, but my concern cars are Mazda 3, Axela, Toyota Allion, Vios and Honda Civic ES5 or ES 1 2004, I like all the cars but I don't know the mechanical problem of these cars, as I heard Mazda has and looks and as well as the Allion got the second market, but I should be satisfied with Fuel, looks, comfort, second market values and power, which car do you experts ask me to put my hands on. Hope some of you know about these cars.

Your valuable comments and suggestions will be highly appreciated.

Kindly do assist me in this regard.

Thanks

Mate, well buying something u don't know you should refer and ask someone who knows about things rather than that going for something which u gonna buy by paying something big.

So if you have any idea in helping me that would be appreciated.

If you do a bit of searching in the forums you`ll notice that similar topics are discussed in several threads.

I think the main concern when answering a question like this is there are so many different factors to consider and therefore it`s difficult to pin point to an exact model. You`ll have to take input from people (be careful with this, the SL car market is full of speculations, bull s**t ideas, market manipulation, etc… ), search the forums and then add the all important personal choice to come up with the final decision.

I don’t know too much about cars but my preference list from the models you have mentioned would be:

• Mazda 3/Axela – best looking, best handling, good interior, relatively newer model for the price. I don’t give a crap about fuel consumption coz there won’t be a huge difference among these anyway

• Toyota Allion – I`m concerned about the power to weight factor (haven’t driven one though), looks don’t prefer

• Honda Civic ES5 or ES 1 – model is out dated, too expensive for a 5+ year old car

• Vios – I believe it’s a crap model, created for Asian market, not worth for the price

Cheers and good luck..

Bro, very sry if you get hurt with our jokes. But that's the truth behinds cars & women. You can't get all of these factors (Fuel, looks, comfort, second market values and power) from one.

AFAIK, from the models you mentioned, mazda3/Axela, ES1/ES5 & Allion are good cars.

Mazda has the best outlook but it's bit poor on fuel efficiency (I'm taking about mazda 3. dn't knw exact figures on Axela)

Toyota Allion(1.5) having decent fuel figures, decent outlook as well as good second hand value. I don't know about handling much.

Honda having a sporty look, good handling, good power with decent fuel figures. Also it has good reselling value too.

So It's up to you to decide which way you're going..

cheers!

As said by other members all these cars have positive and negative points. Its upto you to decide as it's your hard earned money

Anyway The Mazda has the best handling out of the cars you've mentioned. It looks good too and also you can buy a newer model for that price when compared to the Allion

The Allion is fuel efficient and Comfortable (A15).I can't comment about it's handling as I havn't driven any

The Honda handles well, has decent power and fuel figures too.But it might not look as sporty as the Mazda (My 2cents :) )

You can also consider a Toyota Corolla 121.It also falls in that price bracket :)

I am surprised why you even considered Vios the classical darling choice of the uninformed, passionless Sri Lankan buyer! So we can count that one out first. Then count the said Honda out as it's starting to show it's age in terms of styling. Count the Allion out as you can only buy a pretty old Allion within your budget (possibly with quite a few running repairs to attend to). If I were you, I'd personally import a 2007 Axela from Japan with no 3rd party involvement. One of my colleagues did just that and I think he manged to get the car to his hands for about 3.3 to 3.4 mil.

Look, if I was you I would close my eyes and buy a Mazda 3 . There are a couple advertised in AL too so just have a look around. I'm sure you will not be dissapointed. I personally think it's one of the value for money car at the moment. Good luck with your purchase :)

I've been using a 2008 Mazda Axela for two months now. So can give u these points.

1. Best handling I've experienced in a car of same class.

2. Not the best in terms of fuel-economy. Does barely above 10 km/l in city traffic. Haven't had time to test in out-of-colombo traffic conditions.

3. Better interior and exterior styling than other models that you have mentioned.

4. Best value for the money in terms of looks, comfort, power and overall driving experience.

5. To give you the diff between Mazda 3 and Axela,

Mazda 3 - 1600cc engine with 95 bhp

Mazda Axela - 1500cc engine with 102 bhp (More power at lesser engine capacity, slightly more fuel consumption than 3.)

6. You wouldn't have to worry about the second hand value if u personally import one. (Bcos ur cost would be considerably less.)

Don't give him false hopes Isuru.:) You can't import a 2007 Axela now for the cost that Ranmaal has imported. Now it is very difficult to find a decent 2007 Axela below 130 JPY. Last weeks tax for a 2007 Axela was 18.25. At the current ex. rate the cost is around 36.5-37. At the rate that JPY is appreciating it could go even higher. But still I agree with u that it is the best value-for-money car available today.

BTW are u back in SL..?

Thanks guys for your valuable thoughts and suggestion do appreciate it well.

As referred by a friend above about Corolla 121, i reckon it's not worth the money since the car is pretty 10 to 8 years old and will be ideally with some running repairs, so as you guys just explained me and majority of the hands ups are for Mazda3 or Axela's so i once again invite you guys to give me some more thoughts to buy a better car for the value for my budget.

Cheerz mate...

Ranmaal cleared his car barely a week ago and it's no more than a month ago that he ordered it from Japan. It's really sad to see the price having increased by about 300-400k within that time period it self.

i am just gonna come out and say it.. go for the mazda.. thats is.. no BS no justification needed..

as stated the choice is a no brainer between the mazda3/axela vs the others in fizz's wish list. between the axela and the 3 i think axela is way better than 3. 10 kmpl in rush hour that revv gets is very good. one of my colleagues mazda3 barely exceeds 9kmpl under same mentioned conditions. we have to understand that these newer generation heavier cars cannot repeat the same fuel consumption figures as did their predecessors. as i noted in some other thread 141 axio cannot better 121 in fuel econo department.

I was in the same position and Axela was my choice. However you will have to struggle a little to keep it under 3.5mil. I got one last friday and it did cost me about 3.35mil even though I directly imported it myself...

Btw.. Revv And Isuru how are you all doing mates?

doing fine mate. i see someone jobless in Netherlands finally deciding to register as an AL member :-). bdw by the looks of things heard of since, you seem to have gotten a very good deal thanks to you importing it all by your self.

Thanks guys for your comments, so as I hear from the thread that this beauty would do on fuel is 9 - 10 in rush hrs well it's okay if the car is exceptionally good, but could I know how much will be a well maintained 2004 Axela will cost and with the number plates.

In respect to this topic I got to know that Mazda 3 holds with Auto Transmission mostly and Axela is with Manual, will I be able to get a auto transmission and what would be most efficient to drive with regard for power, but I prefer a Auto since I got a manual vehicle at present.

Hi Mates

2 months before I bought an unregisterd Mazda Axela 2007 for 3.3 mill and its doing around 14km/lit outstation and arnd 10km/lit in city.

So as I know you don't need to worry about fuel consumption.

Note: Guys my car came up with factory fitted TV + Radio and DVD but i coudn't navigate radio beyond 90mhz and TV is in japansih language. If anyone aware how to fix the problem please let me know

FYI my daily commute is no axio but an old but cefiro, axio is for my extended family usage. but it is indeed good for you though if you haven't figured the difference between vios and bland but axio x (this by no means to say axio is any fun or radical choice).

Heh hee.. it seems like Isuru is being pounded for his (un)radical choice of Axio X. :)

NOT fair. he is entitled to buy an axio an vouch for other cars.. ;)
