HI all,

I first like to thank all AL members for sharing knowledge and I my self have learn t a lot from you guys, i howver now have some basic stuff to be solved. pls help me

I just got my self an old lancer station wagon, there are a few issues that needs to be handled.

1. I need to fix a set up to it how ever it has not center console, i am not happy with messing with the dash board by placing holes since it is in original condition, i want to know if there are places where you can make after market consoles which almost matches the interior color of the car.I can then fix the set up in the hole and also have the dashboard preserved.

2. I have a cigarette lighter but it does not seem to work any idea if this can be repaired will it be costly i really need this because i charge my phone on the move.

3. I need to fix some small slim lights on the front buffer i don't know it they are called fog lights or parking lights( i have already got parking lights)any advice on this.

Finally i would like to know of any good mechanic and auto electrician around dehiwela, rathmalana,mt lavinia, if possible so that i can start to deal with the engine and other running repairs, the guy should be good in old vehicles as i have noticed fellows who are good in new vehicles tend to mess up the basic stuff.

1. Don't think there are any aftermarket solutions for it available in Sri Lanka. What you could do install the radio in your glove box (cubby hole). Most radios now come with a remote that you can use to control it without touching the radio. You will have to fabricate a braket to install it but it's pretty easy and will keep your dashboard in the stock condition.

2. Did you check the fuse for the lighter? If that still doesn't help you can have a new one installed. It won't cost a lot.

3. Are you talking about after market fog lights? If so it's a relatively simple install and any good mechanic could install it for you.

As for good mechanics in your area I don't really know. I'm sure someone else will chime in.

Jdnet thanks for the reply,

but i have seen cars with consoles that are made to be in front of the gears so that you can even keep your sunglasses, newspapers, mobile phone.how do they do it.

You have to fix a cage like bracket under the dashbord.I know a person in Divulapitiya. We call him NIRMANA.Go to Divulapitiya town and ask for him by the name Nirmana. He has a workshop there. There is also a good electrician called Ananda aiya in Divulapitiya. They are good people and they will solve all your problems.

there's a couple of good mechs in the mt.lavinia area. one guy in particular is Shafique. you'll find his garage in a little road close to the Bakery junction at the attidiya end of templers' road. don't be intimidated by the awesome cars that tun up there. shafique knows his stuff even with older machines and in general won't rip you off. he might put your motoring knowledge to the test tho :)

No we are not short of them, but it seams that there are a very few reliable ones who know what they are doing...
