hmmm It seems no body would think out of the box. if you bought an econobox just be happy with its current performance.

And you were right. After your reply I searched youtube for dynos and found almost no econoboxes tested. anyway i am not interested in racing, just the mechanical/electrical part inside the car.

well doing a dyno run isnt exactly cheap so dont you think it would be better to save that money for something else ?

you do realize that a dyno run would cost around 15k right ?

& how did u come to that assumption

day to day average users of econoboxes are not thinking about how much hp they have in there cars what they thinking about is how to go from point a to point b,fuel economy in there cars, maintenance cost etc in other hand people who want to ricer up there cars want to know how much hp they have how much add by mods fitted to car etc when econobox owner doing it the chances are he want to rice up his econobox.

So u r saying a normal car owner cant check the HP in his car unless he is a ricer... Its true that normal econobox owners r more concerned about their fuel consumption...etc... but its there choice if they wanna go check HP in their car....we cant go assuming everyone is a ricer...just becoz they want to put their car on a dyno

got this off the internet i think this describes the proper ricer

A Ricer is a stupid young idiot who thinks he is a car expert after watching The Fast and the Furious, Pimp My Ride, and playing Need For Speed Underground. As a result, ricers then try "SOUPING UP" or "PIMPING" their "RIDES" by placing modifications on their cars that fail to increase the performance and, if anything, make the car look terrible and go slower. It is also used to describe the completely overrated car.

Well i dont see anything wrong with someone being curious to know the HP on their car.. do u???

Well if anyone wants to know the stock HP of their cars there is this wonderful thing called wikipedia isnt it ?

I dont care if anyone wants to find out his HP or do what ever he wants, my point is it seems kind of pointless spending 15K to dyno a car that hasnt added any performance mods.

Dont you think the usual people who buy econoboxes could utilize that money for something useful ?

Again to the beginning.

My concern was to check if someone can pin point the errors caused to reduce the HP by putting it to a dyno test. I thought dyno has some mechanism to measure other parameters of the car and find what is the cause for HP reduction. Now it seems dyno is unable to do that.

Any ideas why dyno test is that much expensive? because of the high capex?

well for my 2 cents worth, I'd say its fine if someone wants to check their vehicles hp specially if it's an old one and they think its lagging in performance (for over taking purposes) and even after going to garage's and getting tune ups, if they wish to spend more and check on their vehicles performance its their choice, specially if the vehicle has lost about 20-30hp over time, they'd know that maybe the engine has under compression or sludged up or whatever..

I mean, we've had only econo boxes (not my personal choice but ah well) and if I thought it wasn't moving the way it should, I don't mind spending that much cash (After having done the basics of course) and finding out if it's really lost any or if it's just my imagination :)

However if it's a real mutt who goes and fits a huge exhaust to an eg8 or a 121 and thinks he's got an extra 30 bhp and takes it for a dyno run.. well then chooti putha's internet description is perfect :D

@ Asanka424, yes the Dyno CAN find faults in your vehicle if its EFI that is, its a very modern state of the art machine and setting one up is no joke, so it has all the latest equipment for not only measuring engine power but for checking the sensors and other things related. So it can't be run at a very low cost, because it is a costly machine.

Thanks virensti. Exactly what i was looking to get answers. May be someday I will take my econobox to the dyno. (we only have one in sri lanka right?)

WTF!!

You have no idea about the sh!t you're talking about do you? If you dont know something, dont mislead people.

Btw arent you the guy who wanted to sell his dad's vios and buy a much older Impreza because you wanted more 'reliability'... And how did that go?

if u didnt know this go google this too...standard HP levels on vehicles vary over time. so if someone wants to know what the exact HP on his car is right now he has to take it to da dyno...going & checking it on wikipedia will not help

BTW i hope i didnt hurt u r feeling with the small description i found about ricers :violent-smiley-099:

terribly sorry then, didn't know I had mislead everyone.. My apologies.. I retract my previous statements, I did not know what I was saying.. Yes I did because at the time it seemed more economical due to cash issues.. nonetheless I'm sorry.

If you need to get you're sensors and basic running parameters checked- go to the Agents and ask them run their diagnostic tool on you're car if its EFI. (along with a tune up) that costs around 3k. Don't see any purpose in looking up the dyno option for you're requirement.

I suggest you read post no 15 before making anymore asinine comments

Also you might want to read post no 16 where our friend asanka explains why he wants to dyno, his goal isnt related to finding out his HP he just wants to know how he lost power and how to get it back. I doubt putting a car in a dyno will tell him how he lost power

But I thought they can pin point the actual error for power loss rather than checking all the components

And no offence taken as i am not driving a ricebucket :angry-smiley-048:

Machan Asankas main goal (as i understand) is to know how much he lost and and how to get it back, while dyno tuning can do that i doubt that its worth it. Like Elvis said the best way for him is to do a diagnosis from the agents :)

Its got nothing to do with Asanka. From what i can see he doesnt know what he wants & what he doesnt want.... what im saying is u & ur friend nexus go around making assumptions that if someone wants to put their car on a dyno its becoz they r a ricer

You maybe not driving a rice bucket. But the rest of it seems to fit ur profile :alc:

First of all unlike u & ur buddy from kandy i dont go around calling everyone a ricer just becoz someone wanted to check the HP on their car or if they had a huge body kit...its upto them to do whatever they want with their money...

:angry-smiley-048: You think calling your self the stig makes u know it all...thats just like having an Integra Type R sticker on a Maruti

You know its funny how you keep drifting off topic, this usually happens when people dont have a valid argument.

Anyway im gonna ignore you now cause i got better things to do than to explain myself and why i chose "THE STIG" as my username to random men on the internet.

So have fun, knock yourself out :)

Dude u were the one who started going OT....when i said that u & ur friend were making assumptions about other people being ricers...Think twice before pointing fingers at others....

well i dont have time to waste on a ricer like u...who thinks he knows it all after watching a few seasons of top gear...but anyways i really hope u grow up & stop calling others ricers just to hide the fact that your a ricer

I never said I want to put a car to a dyno. I was just checking what we can yield from dyno test as I was unaware about testing vehicles on dynos.

I know what dynamometer does theoretically. I thought they have a mechanism to figure out what are the wrong factors with the engine operation parameters. Such as Air/Fuel mixture, ignition problem. If not there will be no use for ppl like us where we use vehicle for daily running (not for racing).

im not saying all are like that average mean many of them and what im saying is if a guy take a car to dyno 10 out of 9 times are A performance car b exotic car c ricer car i hope this clear everything out.
