Hi Friends,If any one knows details about Toyota prius Hybrid please let me know. I heard it does 25 km/ltr and this car could be imported Rs.2.2 mil due to tax reduction. Is this true?Any one using a prius?

That fuel consumption number depends on which model you're speaking of. MKI & II will not get that number. MKIII maybe able to but you need to drive like a grandma.

I also interested in Hybrids low tax and low fuel cost. But my worry about life time of battery pack. So is it posible to deactivate / detached moter driven system temporary of permanently and use them as normal cars if battery pack ends it life time. If so how would be the milage. Is anyone doing this? Thanks

I watched some review videos about prius. looks like you have to drive it very slowly.(like a grandma :)).If you can drive it about 37-40kmph then you will get around 58 MPG. If you are going up in a hill you will loose you fuel efficiency. If you are coming down in a hill (gliding) you will save fuel.

Anyway prius fuel efficiency is very higher than its competitors. (like Honda Fit Hybrid). It comes with a lot of features. (I'm not sure we will be able to see them in sri lanka).

If you are willing to sacrifice your speed, then you will able to save fuel.

Hay,, no need to worry about the battery pack in most countries toyota gives a warranty of 10 years to the battery and electric motor/generator.

My question is that if it will be suited to Sri Lanka,,

eg:- Suspension and water resistance of the battery

hybrid vehcles will have the same fate as king cabs (pin cabs) People will find a hole in the things cheap and blame it all day long (eg-No space in the rear seats)

Yet I'm very suspicious wether thier electronics will withstand our floods

Hmmmm... A hybrid seems to be a good option now with the tax cuts. But the main concern would be maintenance. Prius and Insight are stand alone models. I can safely assume it would be difficult to find parts compatible with both. And the Hybrid system in the Prius is very complexed (as oppose to the mild IMA system in the Honda), not sure if there are many garages which are well versed with the system. (only place I can think of is the agents)

Also the car will be 3 years old anyway when it comes to SL. So that's 3 years of the 8 year/160,0000km warranty.(not that it is a valid warranty anyway as it's not from the agent) To replace the battery pack, from what I understand will cost around $6000.00 (US). The second hand value will be a concern, with cost associated with the battery pack. And will the battery packs compatible with the MKII be available in another 6 to 7 years? So there is a lot of ambiguity around the viability around Hybrids in SL.

I myself prefer the Honda Civic Hybrid. It will cost almost the same but will suffer in fuel economy. But on the other hand it will have most parts common with the gasoline Civic, also it's a less complicated system than Prius (less things to go wrong)and finally I believe the IMA and the battery pack can be taken out and be replaced with a 1.8l R18 if it is required.

Actually I was very much interested to buy a hybrid civic before i bought FD1. Only thing was the durability of the power pack and how motors resist to water. the subaru guy at kohuwala told me that they have spares and tools for the repairs but not proven.

Originally the manufacturer gives 10 year warrenty for the battery pack but it is not valied when you purchased second hand in here.New B.P. cost approx 8 lacks.

Well full hybrids are usually more efficient, but I didn't come across any custom documents saying only full hybrids get the tax cuts. As the tables say, hybrid electric vehicles get very low total tax.

Difference of hybrid types here

Whats the difference between 1/2 and full hybrid vehicles?

There isn't anything called a half hybrid. Unless you are one of those guys who hads scoop lights in his car.

It's actually mild hybrids and full hybrids.

In a mild hybrid the electric motor basically only assists the engine and is not actually capable of producing enough power to run the car. The motor is generally smaller than traditional hybrids. The systewm is actually quite common in 4wd SUVs.

In a full hybrid the electric motor has the ability to generate enough power to propel the car using electricity only.

Couple of car sale guys are offering the Prius, Insight and the Civic. All 3 are almost the same price, between Rs. 2.4m and 2.5m. The Insight and the Civic are mild Hybrids, though the Insight has an eco mode. Also the Insight is the smallest of the 3. (I think the wheelbase is similar to the City/Aria)

Either you're insanely rich, or just plain weird.

yep i don't have enough green to dispose cars

yet hybrids would be disposed in 5yrs in sl conditions

You really are a dumba## aren't you?

Do you seriously think people are just going to buy cars and throw them away? If we had more idiots like you in the world, there would not be a car repair and spare part industry. Jeez even being a dip sh#$ should have limits.
