Interference Or Non-Interference?

Mars Volta

Recommended Posts

According to Wiki, The ZL is an evolution of the B Series, which was a Non-Interference engine... That's more or less all the info on Wiki.

I now know one more useless piece of information... ;)

Thanks VVTI,

I bought the above car very recentlty

the ODO says 60k kms but last week two engine mounts gave in

along with the ignition coils (which cost me plenty)

So next thing on the cards is the T belt, that's why all these fussing.

Sorry for the botheration

And I am very humble to say everything and all I know about cars I learnt

from you guys and I am very grateful to you on that

Keep up the good work.

Thanks again!!!

If you have any doubts about the condition of the TB, have it changed ASAP. If by a remote chance your engine is an interference engine, you will do so much more damage if the belt fails. Read... complete overhaul or even a whole new engine. I've seen cracked heads, broken pistons, severely scuffed cylinder wall etc... from a timing belt failure. The possible consequence far outweigh the cost of a new TB.

Thanks all for your valuable inputs and time.

I've got all the past maintenance records, nothing suspicious there

and it was initialy owned by an German national and it is rather unlikely

an ODO reset by him. my only hitch is the car sales guy (I#dra tra***S)

from which he purchased the car back in 2006 as a jap re con.

Anyway I'm going to get the belt replaced from Ma*na mtrs to be on the safe side.

I checked with 'em, total cost with adjusters and labour comes around 25k

Thanks and Merry Christmas everyone

Ahhh not the whole owned by a foreigner thing. Seriously I think this whole white people take better care of cars thing is utter bull. I've seens thousands upon thousands of cars in junk yards in the U.S where people never got their oil cahnged, switched between R to D without stopping and busting the tranny. Seen almost every thing you could do to destroy a car. So I would have to say that foreigners are just as capable as Sri Lankan's in destroying cars and even having the milage changed.

He was nice enough to give me a discount since the faulty Ig. coil too was

purchased from him (as second hand) 'bout 2 months back for 5k.

cost me 18k and I replaced only one.

BTW will an engine wash cause an sudden ig. coil failure?

trust me..i have the same issue now after an engine bay wash..now there is an engine miss in cold start every day morning..i suspect the issue is with ignetion coils..but the funny thing is the problem disappears after about 10 mins when everything heated up.

what were your symptoms when the ignetion coil gave in?

I had no problem with the cold start and no engine misses were there

the car was running like beauty. both the ignition coil issue popped up

at the Garage and both were after the engine wash,

(1st replacement) I took her there to sort out the rough idle issue

and got done a throttle body clean/engine tune up and plug change and

all of a sudden car was refusing to start and they hooked up something

and the culprit was Ig. coil. I replaced it with the second hand one.

(2nd replacement)At the routine service, they did a engine wash and thanks to

VVTI's warning on the subject I was cautious this time, they did all the necessary

cleanings/blow drys. this time the car started. La**** took her for a test drive

and observed a engine miss and there was some sparking from the plugs the culprit was

the same ignition coil and I replaced it this time with a genuine.

I'm clueless man, Is it a genuine case of ignition coil failure or something else?

And Evergreen! you from Kandy? I'm too hailing from there.. Mulgampola.

Evergreen,

If you're to replace Ig. coils, You may try Asiri or Rainbow motors.(I'm not sure which one)

They have for 9K odd rupees, obviously not genuine but they highly recommends it.

This is just for your info.I haven't tried 'em or seen.

(Unfortunately in my case at Mazna they had only Genuines at that time.)

How much would cost for a "used" and "new" OEM Ignition Coil of BJ5P 2003 model? If any one of you have purchased recently! My one (actually both) is about to replace.

Thanks.

(I found another thread named 'Mazda Familia Ignition Coil', this is not the appropriate title for the question. sorry guys!)
