Mazda Tribute- Sell Or Not

Hi Guys,

So today I decided that I need a learn a bit more about hybrids and repairing them. Now this would not at all be possible if I didn't have a hybrid to work on. So I was thinking about letting the Tribute go. I do love this truck very much and would feel comfortable taking it to the end of the world. Bascially though it's the only vehicle in the garage that I can get rid of though. So what do you think?

1. get rid of it or not?

2. What hybrid car should I replace it with and learn to fix in the process?

3. Which is the most complex model that I can buy locally?

4. rough costs...

Now for those of you who want to make this a fuel consumption thread please note that I do not care about fuel figures at all! I am perfectly happy filling up the tribute three times a week. Basically all I want to do is take apart a hybrid and put it back together.

I would say don't get rid of it! Since you seem to love it so much anyways.

If hybrids do take off, chances are you will probably be able to buy a used one in the future for a dirt cheap price. Why not hang on to that V6 for the time being?

Well my father did come up with a good idea just now. Basically he asked me to find a non-working hybrid for real cheap and import it. AS long as it's accident free I should be able to import it right?

How important is "putting it back to gether part"

If you got a non-working unit, unless you were able to fix it, you'd end up with an expensive pile of spare parts (maybe you can sell the parts in a few years time when people start looking for bits for their hybrids!)... if you only wanted to take things apart though, might be cheaper to take a holiday in the UK and spend some time in a breakers yard :)

Haha I love salvage yards. I've taken apart many engines in them just for the hell of it....

Well putting it back together would be a required since I need to make it run in order to know I can fix it lol. Truth be told anything can be taken apart with a air sax, hammer and impact wrench.

Looking forward to having this conversation with you Sifaan. After I fix the gas leak using my trusty bic lighter. lol.

Well guys after spending the last few hours thinking about it, I have decided list the tribute for sale on monday. A good truck she was. Besides the old intrepid that I crashed, i've never liked a car as much as I do. From what it looks like, I will be replacing it with a prius hybrid. I find the car really distasteful but this is something that needs to be done in order to get into the whole hybrid repair deal.

Good luck!...with the potential influx of hybrids heading toward SL this should be a good direction...its best to specialize in something like this,than being just another mechanic IMO.

hmm... I saw some advertised in hit-ad, but unfortunately don't have the paper.

but just wondering, it's 5 weeks since the budget, so isn't that rather fast for someone to have brought down a hybrid for sale?
