I want a reflector for my windscreen (it's parked in the sun most of the time) and the ones on the market are too small, so I went to place an order for a custom-made reflector. While I was there I asked about getting reflectors for the front windows and they said that if I get it made to full size I wouldn't be able to drive with them cos they will block the side mirrors.

My question is - is it possible to drive with reflectors covering 50-60% of the front windows? wouldn't it be a distraction for other drivers?

I dont really think driving with a reflector is a good idea.Besides if a cop spots you you'll be in big trouble.

who drives with reflectors in the first place?

I also wondered about that, but the place seemed to think there were people who did that.

if you meant in the sense of the tinted window ban; while for tints they can ask you to produce the car with the tint removed, that would be pointless with something that can be removed and reattached?

yup, the same tint law will apply here. you cant cover your front windows by any means.

seen reflective ones. BTW Sifaan how about placing a cardboard on the wind shield? there's this new 407 parked outside a building in nawala and the owner just used some old card board.........Evidently it seems that he can't afford a reflector...lol.

Had a run in with the cops regarding tinted glasses recently. A senior Inspector showed me a copy of the gazette based on which they are enforcing the Tinted window rule.

It states that any colouring / sticker or other object on the windscreen obstructing the identification of the Driver and Passenger from the outside is Illegal. That means technically you can be copped even for driving with a Stick-On sunshade on any of the front glasses.

Ohh, got mixed up :D

Anyway I think having a lighter tint in the front, would be a better option

As long as there is anything obstructing the view of the driver to someone outside, this rule is valid for anything. B)

What I realised is that they only threaten but never actually prosecute. They retained my Driver's license even though the car had absolutely nothing stuck on the side windows, and told him to ask me to come over to City Traffic and show the car. When I did so, the Inspector there also realized that the glass had nothing on it and you could see right through it even though it had a slight shading. He tried to make excuses for his constable saying that since the rear windows had dark glass (no tint film) the constable would have thought the car was too dark).

I asked him whether I should get the side window glasses replaced and he said no need to do that - but could face this kind of situation in future also since it was left to the judgment of each constable to decide. There was no actual measurement mentioned in the gazette which he showed me.

Particular gazette was one which was passed under emergency regulation... which should be lifted if all goes well...... :)

I guess they also are waiting the the rule is better clarified, but occasionally use it to make life difficult for us motorists when they feel like it.

I for one am still a fan of not tinting the front windows, since tinted front windows in Sri Lanka seem to automatically breed "threewheel driver" mentality in to the driver.
