It appears you've decided on what car to buy, and since its brand new i doubt you can go bargaining with the agent. So i dont quite see the point of your question.

If he's buying, guess it'd be cheaper to buy a Belta from Japan directly through a friend or so after putting your specs on it and getting in imported here as a recon. Though I doubt many will do that, it'd be cheaper as it'd have been a registered in Japan car, also getting 90% of CIF for taxes, and not to mention softer suspension giving more comfort and slightly better quality of interior, at the expense of having no warranty and getting a Jap manual. You should be able to save a few lakhs in the process anyhow.

never had the money to consider a brand new car, but I thought it was possible to haggle a discount when buying brand new from the agent?

We had brand new cars for permits only, not otherwise, and those agents are a greedy lot most of the time dry.gif Trying to offer what they can rip off from most, and not making other options available, increasing CIF values given to customs for models they don't import, making the basic trim so basic that everything has to be paid for as an extra option. Ex: In the case of Sunny, even mud flaps and wheel covers on steel wheels were optional!

Maybe you could get a better deal if you know someone high enough for that, and is willing to lower their profit :)

A person I met the other day told me -- as he had paid in cash the full amount --the agents have brought it down to 4.1 M.

An year back one of my friends had bought a brand new 1.3 for 3.4 million all taxes inclusive from the said agents. Apparently they offer no extra options as the buyer would like. You get to pick only the color! Baffles me as to the whole point of buying a brand new if they dont allow what we want in the car we buy. An option they offer is if you want a factory fitted stereo or a local fit. Factory fitted costs more. What a joke. I would try and fit a axio for that amount, its more car for the money you pay but of course 3 years old.
