  1. Can one seriously get a 240 premio fo 3.1? Anyway, if fuel economy more than 121 is what u r after, premio is not for u.
  2. I think the whole point of chans argument is based on the fact that selling permits r illegal. The reason for issuing permits is govt servants generally get a salary below par of their private sector counterparts. Permits and other similar benefits r given to offset the disparity and to keep ppl motivated and loyal to state service. One can buy a maruti or a jaguar depending on one's affordabilty for personal use. The key word here is 'personal use'. So the sellers r the ones who r really to blame for creating a market to a bunch of mongolian idiots.
  3. Arent brand new civics and citys imported from india?
  4. Well... why look further? India is still making a few ancient relics from the early 80s.... The Maruti 800 (2nd Gen Suzuki Alto), Maruti Alto (3rd Gen Suzuki Alto). Pakistan is still manufacturing the 2nd Gen Suzuki Alto with their own name called "Mehran". Mehran has a carburreted engine! I believe, Iran Khodro is another company that still manufactures old relics from Peugeot. And if you look at china, there must be plenty of small timers who still make old relics.
  5. 25000 those days is far from a small profit. It's like importing a car for 5 million and selling for 6 million! I don't think any car importer nowadays makes a million profit from just one vehicle.
  6. Sylvi, are you aware of any 70s Holden in good nick in Sri Lanka?

    Vehicle Permits

OP wanted to know about Govt Servants permits (for lecturers and doctors). Kushan posts about Gift Permits, which are totally unrelated. If Kushan was a doctor, he might give antacids for a headache. And more to the point, OP would be very thankful to him... "Hey that didn't cure my headache but those tablets were very tasty!"
  8. I recall seeing an HG- plated one and an HN-plated one. Neither of them are converted to diesel afaik. That means there must be more than two Nissan Presidents in SL. What's the number series of the President that you saw in Negombo?
  9. Machan, I am aware of the whereabouts of one (used by the owner of a famous car sale and a leasing company). Any idea where the other one is? Afaik the latter was up for sale some time ago. Speaking of modern V8s, there are few 5ltr Ford Fairlanes (Aussie made) in SL. A 301- plated one, an FZ- plated one and another english numbered one is what I know. But I doubt if they will make it to classicdom anytime at all. Are u aware of any of the Holdens from 1970s in decent nick? Sometime ago I noticed a totally messed up 40-sri Holden UTE in the streets of colombo. It could possibly be the only Holden UTE in SL, but it was used to lug 'parana yakada'. There are a few Statesmans afaik.
  10. Happy Birthday Mate!
  11. Is the 'only one' bravo that you are talking about, is the one with JM- plates?
  12. Yup, from a Sri Lankan context
  13. To the tunable retro cars, I would add Ford Capris and Cortinas. Austin Metro (if any of them have survived), Nissan Pulsar EXA would be in my list of Future classics.. Have you come across any CRX, RX7 or 406 Coupe in unmolested condition? I remember seeing an utterly effed up 406 coupe at Punchi Car Sale (of all places on earth!) Edit: Also thinking of adding Fiat Bravo to the future classics list
  14. People who buy cars for permits are not considered idiots. But there are plenty of idiots here who buy cars for permits. They are the ones who ruin it for the rest of the nice folks who actually don't go on and on about their superiority over others. For example, one IDIOT was bragging about not getting copped for driving without number plates for a week, because he was driving his permit 520D. How do you want them to be treated?
  15. Machan the really shameful thing is inbreds who havent even attended kindergarten, getting permit BMWs, driving it around without number plates and bragging to their equally retarded peers about cops not stopping them!
  16. The engine number must reflect on the registration papers. Otherwise its illegal (at least in theory). Your friend might face problems in the future when he needs a valuation done or when he wants to sell the car or if it meets with an accident. So the safest thing to do is to register. Unlike petrol-diesel conversions, registering a petrol-petrol conversion is very simple and you only need to pay something like 500 rupees.
  17. There is a similar system (not for kit cars per se) in SL. For example, if you want to fix a cage on a D*MO Batta, you need to get it approved by the RMV. There are specified maximum height and weight limitations depending on the vehicle, obviously for safety reasons. However, a little bit of palm grease is all that is needed to get taller and/or wider cages approved. If at all a quality checking system is implemented, first thing our buggers will do, is to find workarounds to it. So at the end of the day, its always bad news for the true kit car enthusiast.
  18. The trouble is if they made it legal, every makabass in every junction will start making half-cooked deathtraps. Better of as it is, I guess.
  19. Go to http://images.google.com/, type in "Sylvi Wijesinghe" and have yourself a laugh!

  20. Sorry about the negative rep mate, that was an accidental click ... and if I were you, I would have beaten the bejesus out of him with the nearest available weapon
  21. this is the genuine one
  22. So u need to match the colour code when you buy those pens?
  23. Already discussed this vehicle. Please search the forum. If you have already DECIDED to buy it, why bother asking some random strangers about it?
  24. On a side note, has anyone tried using the so called touch up pens for scratch cover-up? There are plenty of those products on the net. Are they any good?
