Was that the manual that came with the car or did you buy a manual from somewhere? So if you bring in a Insight from Japan and find a manual for an Insight from the net, the specifications won't be the same. Both Europe and Japan (also Sri Lanka) use RON as the rating system. But your manual says PON. So it's probably a manual for the American market. You have to ignore some of the content in that manual. Assuming that the manual came with the car, according to his manual, the PON rating is 87 (not RON rating). PON 87 is RON 91-92. In Sri Lanka, the indicator is RON. If you trust the RON 92 petrol at IOC, you are better off using that. Having said that, RON 98 rated cars are used in Sri Lanka with 95, without many issues (in the short run at least). So using 90 for a 91 rated car hopefully will not give big issues.

First up, did you get an inspection done from the agent and did you get a quote? I've dealt with Swedish Trading to repair my Proton and they are not so bad. If you tell them that you can't afford a big repair bill, they will try to minimize the amount of replacements you need to do. For example, agents normally expect you to replace parts even if they are repairable. But Swedish Trading guys are a bit flexible in that way. But beware of the Swedish Trading body shop guys. I've witnessed some lousy work of theirs. FYI, Savvy got a Renault engine and transmission so if u can find a baas who repairs Euros, you might be able to get help from him (if it's an engine/gearbox problem). As for spares, on my way back from Swedish Trading, I saw a couple of places on Galle Road (in Ratmalana and Mount area), which have boards saying Volvo/Proton spares available. You might wanna try them. In any case, if you post the problem like Don asked, AL members might be able to help you.

Just a question. Isn't CE110 a Diesel car? Why are you comparing it with N16 for fuel economy?

Thanks for enlightening me dude. So according to you, Prius is an infallible piece of machinery. Since they have been exposed to terrible roads, extreme weather and harsher driving conditions in USA and Australia (compared to Sri Lanka) and they have withstood over 300,000 miles, there will be absolutely no problems with any of the Priuses here for the next 10 years.... or maybe even 50 years! And since the product recalls Toyota comes up with every 6 months for Prius, works perfectly in Sri Lanka, even if there were teeny weeny problems, it will not affect the users. (FYI there were 28 product recalls for various models of Prius during the last 10 years 2001-2011). So let's suggest the OP to get a Prius.

Which of the statements below sound like pure bias and hatred for hybrids? What Mani has stated are facts! DO you honestly think random guys driving on Prius's on the road/Toyota Lanka or spares importers will tell you the facts below (even if they know them)? AL members dislike hybrids for a reason. Let's say your fuel bill for an Allion is about 20000/month and it's reduced to 8000/month with a Prius. Effectively, you are saving 144,000 a year or about 700,000 over 5 years. Now if the battery goes bust within the 5 years, it's gonna cost you more for the whole replacement process. The total cost of ownership of a hybrid across a longer time period is significantly higher. And please don't tell me about cheap Singapore/China batteries that cost only 100,000. Nobody knows how long they will last or what other damage they will cause to the car (would you trust a cheap battery with your laptop, let alone the car?). And if you think you will be smart and u will peddle off the car within that 5 years, think of this factor. The moment one or two owners start having troubles with expensive parts like the battery, the market price of Prius is gonna plummet, because of the panic in the market. So in the long run, Prius owners may face problems one way or the other.

There are more things to be concerned about, in a 25 year old car, than the RPM meter. I would say, if everything else is ok, go for it - especially the body condition. One of my friends had a C12 few years ago and it met with an accident. We had a really tough time looking for parts like the grille and the bonnet. Engine parts wouldn't be too hard to find though. It's got the omnipresent 4G13 engine. Market price would also depend on the condition of the car, but I would guess in the range of 400k or slightly lower. Compared to C1x series Lancers, the box model Lancers seem to have held their market better.

One more thing buddy, production of B14-series Sunny ended in 1998 and B15-series came out in 1998 itself. So double check the registration book and don't go by the seller's word. Based on what Schiffer and Don pointed out, it's quite obvious that the seller is trying to fool u, thinking that you are ignorant. If I were you, I wouldn't have any dealings with that kind of seller. BTW, even for an English-number FB14, anything more than 1.5 mill would be too much imho.
