  1. I guess we have a bunch of bike fans here as well, as the topic says I have a bit of a plan to find an average CD200 Roadmaster and do a restoration. I'm totally new to the bike scene so any suggestions, tips and ideas would be helpful. They go for enormous prices in comparison even in horrid shape.
  2. To add, most owners bought them an ran them down with poor maintenance and cheap repairs, Expect locally repaired clutches, faux battery mods, and mostly rotated mileages, Unless you find a solid car with solid history, and willing to take a risk with further depreciation I would not advise you to go for a 2014 Vezel, there is a tendency for it to become a money pit of repairs and go into further depreciation. There Is no scenario where it can come up good for you unless you buy the car about 1 mil less than the market price,.leaving u margins for a new battery and a new dual clutch setup plus a few bucks more for ancillaries
  3. Apparently a colleague told me they are trying to force customers to pay 2mil to full value without the cars reaching the shore, something fishy there, I told him not to agree Especially when they do not have a demo unit, also the price is still not stated. The manager apparently had asked to go see a black import car in a kohuwala sale to get an idea, which is a higher grade, the dude backed off and is holding his ground saying he will not purchase until he sees a car. They also say they've sold some 50 odd units which again is bluff I guess. I wouldn't move any money until I see the car in their showroom, let alone gearbox fears
  4. I think I saw the car in kandy a while ago, looking good!

    D4D Hilux 3.0

Is it a uk Hilux? very common issue, Replace the idler bearings and alternator bearing as well, also look for cracks around the alternator mounts, common issue again causing belt wear and bearing issues
  6. Guys planning on doing some suspension chaos soon, with a lift

Looking at either iron man or arb via their respective agents

    Pricing is almost competitive

Brand and agent  you would recommend?????

Is this the front strut assembly + rear springs/shocks combo for a Prajero?

As far as i know ARB does not brand shocks etc.. but they they sell Old Man Emu? could be wrong though.

In Australia, Old Man Emu tends to have a better reputation around shock-absorbers over Iron Man. Not sure about the agent situation in SL though.

  7. Yes obviously it's not the same, no one said that, it was just a heads up. Nissan has had a whole array of gearbox issues, and we've had an array of dual clutch issues in SL, so something to consider before diving into a vehicle right in from the first batch, And lastly we all know how helpful the agent was when the issues kicked in, even for the cars they themselves dispersed. Finally some owners had to make do with Bush mechanics and makeshift garages doing home remedies and owners lost like 5 mil in depreciation in months

  9. That would apply to one who is concerned on shedding it fast, In reality its just Toyota; where we have been destined to end up with slow cheaply made crap for the masses! thanks to taxes unless you are in the budget territory above the CHR. Mitsubishi is also a perishing market here Nissan has not had a glorious market since the early days, as for the Juke Its not a boring SUV, but depending of the size of your family please take a look at the innards of the car, its not that large inside. I guess you must have booked the Vehicle around February, going rate you ll end up paying near a CHR cost due to the tax increases. I know a few people who did and said it will cross 7 mil to get on the road. Another thing, Nissan has a bad rep due to the gearbox on the defamed X-trail 2015 which came here in heaps, which I believe they fixed later This thing is also Dual clutch, so just take cars, and the agent has not been very helpful in solving major issues in their own imports, search this forum and u ll see a bit.
  10. The problem is these vehicles were meant to be here by end April, sadly due to the current problems they wont be coming for 3 months and definitely not at the promised price due to the usd rate.
  11. To add to this conversation Well I've bought and sold many vehicles to date, usually i am one of those paranoid fellas who keep even receipts of tyre punctures, wrappers of parts replaced etc, but to date I've never found a buyer who was that interested our records, there was a time he just asked for the revenue licenses and gave the rest to us and took the car away, emissions tests and luxury tax stuff weren't there back then. With I was not sad to see the car go but to bin those records, it was a bit hard.
  12. Curfew trivia

Insurance chap told me even the insurance companies are shocked to see how much doctors crash their cars, despite there being no traffic, curfew and no rush. Mostly on curbs and stationary objects. Array of claims

So a known car dealer tells me. Hes got the most number of calls the last month, asking for large suvs for sale or rent. Reason they have a built in curfew pass status. A businessman was begging him to exchange a E350e for 2011 150 Prado

So many defenders broke down, Famous repair shops are full on queued with state ones and personal ones. reason overuse and misuse propagated their inherent unreliable nature.

Even 300tdi engine kits are now at 500,000 lkr due to shortages.

Fuel stations say, the curfew almost stopped the movement of super diesel, most pumps are barely touched a day.

Vendors say, The below single item that was sold in the craze, considering sheer numbers it was moved in.

    YEAST.

Not groceries. Not soap, not Masks, not hand sanitizer.

'built in curfew pass' that sounds good actually. Apart from the SUVs, I have also seen at police check points that Hiluxes, those grey colour L200 double cabs and light blue colour Suzuki sx4 sedans have this feature on. And myself travelling by a Vitz to work, get stopped at every damn checkpoint ?

      tiv

Oh yes, my vitz is a regular, sometimes they stop just to say hi,

I've seen queues of vitzs at checkpoints near peradeniya,

The grey Brownish L200 with the Grey arches aka sportero was almost exclusively ministry imported, hence the status

  13. Yup Maroon Like Red, 17 wheels, diamond cut, led lamps all over, fog lights solar panel, massive brakes, discs all around, wide low profile tyres, spaceship of a car, Once I avoided a pot hole so brisk 3 bikers behind me thought I was like showing off, break checking ,cutting in sorta thing to them and ended in a huge confrontation.
  14. I'm no expert, I replied to your last thread, But again, when I take a diesel vehicle for the annual tune up and egr clean, the mechanics take utmost precautions not to dislodge clumps of soot / carbon deposits into the inlet / exhaust ports way above the valves, saying there is a tendency to damage the innards. These clumps of soot crumple in your hand but yet they do this. So a bit of metal may / may not have harmed your engine. But if I were you, I wouldn't be contemplating about the experts here rather go open the engine up and make sure nothing has been damaged. Then again there may / may not be any damage. If you are running long distances you may, may not have problems. I run by this policy, if a car is not reliable, it defeats its purpose as an appliance, It fails its purpose as entertainment for us motorheads. Of course fixing and upgrading is fun, but not forever, then it's an inconvenience. For a car to be reliable, it must breakdown less and psychologically must allow you to have the confidence to use it. If that doesnt happen it's just a lump of metal, either you make a proper car out of it, or get rid of it. So its upto u you, take a risk and run the thing with the noise, or start the autopsy. Everytime you hear the sound / whine, you ll be thinking about this thread. Hope you find the expert you are looking for But I doubt he ll give you the answer.
  15. Sadly 5 years ago people were drooling over this car, neighbours battling neighbours, workplace envy, a Red G Grade Leaf was the bomb,
  16. Case would be dehydration which can even happen at 35c There is no limits but at 80c certain plastics will start to warp and gas out, so rather unlikely. Again to your original point, rather than carelessly leaving it in the sun a once over with soap water and a brush would do better
  17. Not entirely true, if you are relying on the UV light, most cars after like 1997 came UV cut glasses. But it will raise the temperature inside to like 50c which will in turn help. But again plenty of cool spots in a car even when parked in the sun so not entirely a proven fact. Ex under Seats boot, glovebox etc, A sensible airing out and soap water rub down would be better. Also ive read a 5min run of the heater in full blast helps to some extent with the ac system.
  18. Messed up/ clogged egr system, cat, ppf, raised egts etc My vitara has a ppf and I've seen it indicate self burn off twice, To add Premature injector failure due to the sulphur content. The thing is manufacturers recommended but only time will tell, in our local setup Example 2010 2011, most of the common rail hiluxes and KDH Hiaces had issues with normal diesel, humongous array, injectors dpf block, CEL etc. Also I guess, I believe fuel quality improved with time as well Whereas none of the mitsubishi common rails had that issue other than output power loss over time. So better play safe than sorry and with the upcoming recession, dip in the LKR trying to save some some what 40 50 rs to 500rs per fuel stop will leave you paying 50,000 to 500,000 if you mess up something.
  19. Well I have a Vitara with a K10C Turbocharged engine, probably with a different tune, The fuel filler cap clearly says RON 95 and so does the owners manual.
  20. 2005 2006 2007 these were kinda popular, came in for like 1.4 or 1.7mil unreg. Very smooth refined hatch, good value for money The Vitz had not reached celestial status with the first gen back then. People went on to kit them and there was a 1.5l manual version which was a bit nippier than the rest.
  21. If you went through all the trouble to open the engine, inspect the piston for cracks it was not that smart to close the whole thing up without giving it a once over, atleast for peace of mind There maybe cracks not visible and given the pressures it encountered may have problems on the bearings as well. If I were you I would have replaced the piston anyhow, with atleast a used one. There maybe nothing at all, or hell inside but now u dont have the peace of mind and cant be sure if the car is reliable. Back in the day my grandfather had a land rover s3, after about approx 200,000km, we opened the diesel engine as it was a bit low on power. To our surprise the the head had a microscopic crack was seeping water onto the piston, and the thing had been happening so long the piston was eroded right through with like a 1mm shim off it causing blow by. We actually repaired the head and replaced with a used piston, the thing is running to date.

  24. Well to summarise the reason to my answer My maternal uncle, is and was an avid Peugeot collector, has had from the first 104, 305, 504, 404, 407, 406 and now has stepped to the hallowed suv grounds with a 3008. His life mission was convincing other family members buying Peugeot. Peugeot fans may know him by name, he has friends in France through forums they used to ship him stuff for free. Also my profession involves the mid decade permit trend so I tend to see gullible colleagues fall prey every season, the micro season, the vezel season, the permit premio season and now the pug season, So far I've experienced 3 cars, my uncles 3008, another colleagues 3008 and a 5008. I've no experience on the 2008, but I've met reps and was about to do a bit more research before the pandemic So my uncles car had a parking brake issue, hes done like 5000 km, idk he rectified it with the agents. Hes hiding it from me in shame, but I heard it was unusable for a few days. The 5008 had an issue with the display, again 3 days at the agent it was resolved, said it was a software thing. The other 3008 met with an accident, nothing big, front driver side quarter panel. agents repair bill was beyond fathom by the insurance, he ended up fixing it in a 3rd party place, the thing has gone AWOL since then, throwing codes. In my small random sample I've seen that brand new cars shouldn't be that hard to run and repair, hence why I said these arent the most reliable, these are sophisticated European motors, whatever you may say they need a lot of attention which people are having a ball with the so called agent. So to the offended pug owners, I respect your pride and joy and have fun running your high end cars, makes the road prettier Meanwhile some of us enjoy being able to fix a car by a sane bush mechanic or even at home after smiling for atleast 100,000km, and pile some money to spare for another car or few dozen beers.
  25. So u opened LC to a hypothetical/ virtual vin, this is frowned upon by the authorities. I do not understand how u let a car that was manufactured in December get dragged on this long? If the agents are this inefficient to get the car to your driveway, imagine using it. Anyways things will get further postponed atleast 2 months even though u opened the lc due to the current situation. Only thing you can do now is to make sure they attend to the 6 months lubricant change when they deliver the car. Anyways the car has complete free services right, parts + labour. Not to dishearten you but pugs arent the most reliable of cars, need constant attention, esp from agents though our herd mentality have made them flood in, be a bit stiff with the agents with this matter and future matters.
