  1. Please, don't. While the Galant ticks most boxes of your list (Obviously not fuel economy!), I don't expect you to take care of the car if you intend to sell it off within 8-12 months ruining a good car and ruining the ownership experience for some unsuspecting buyer in time to come. Stick to an econobox.
  2. This is an interesting topic. Reckon I belong to @trinity's camp but I try my best not to stop on pavements, drive the wrong way on one-way streets and have avoided driving under the influence. In fact, I'd rather get an Uber or travel by bus if I'm not sure about parking or my sobriety on my way back. I've been fined 4 times, On three occasions for speeding and once for overtaking among obstructions. Generally I'm a very alert driver. I don't answer calls while driving, I don't allow myself to get distracted and I'm well aware of my driving conditions. All my signal lights and hazards work and I do check those each week. However, I despise slow drivers on the right lane. Though I don't plan to do it, I sometimes brake check or overtake from the left too close in anger. Happens mostly on the Parliament road and the Japan Friendship road. I then go home and curse myself for being an idiot.
  3. Hey Davy, kicking myself for not checking up on this thread any earlier. No idea how the hell I missed most of the updates since the gravel road drive. Car looks pretty bad ass! I think you need those coilovers anyway. The front wheel gap is a bit hideous. (Don't know whether that's ironic coming from me!) I can't remember whether the Ralliart has stiffer suspension to begin with, if it doesn't I reckon you'll feel the difference between the two when you hit those sharp turns. Love the car mate!
  4. This is probably a different take on things. Having seen a lot of the facets of the problems being discussed (I'm an Arts graduate and now a Product Manager for an IT company, so go figure.) have to agree that we have a systematic problem. When I was at Uni, majority of the Arts students were specialising in History and Sinhala. While that looks OK on the surface, why on earth would someone decide to spend 4 years studying something that has little positive impact on the economy and society is beyond me. It's not as if these people engage in critical thinking or constructive learning while they learn. They just memorise a set of notes brought down through the generations of lecturers. ( I understand the logistical issues of A/Ls that these people go through - Most schools don't offer A/L or offer only three Arts subjects, etc.) But why won't they take up a course like Management or Economics when they get to Uni is hard to understand. When you get to do an Arts degree, most often than not, you get to select your subjects anew. As far as I can remember, there's nothing stopping you from doing completely different subjects than you offered for your A/Ls. After getting the degree they depend on the Government to provide them jobs. It's perfect f**k logic situation. Anyway, that's too broad a topic to tackle. Our grads are good and they do conduct very good semi-self-funded research. Just go here. https://opensource.googleblog.com/2016/06/more-statistics-from-google-summer-of.html University of Moratuwa produced the largest number of Google Summer of Code participants during 2005-2016. While UoM produced 320, the second largest is from IIT, Hyderabad with a paltry 252. So our students are both capable and driven. But that's where things end. GSoC is an academic/research programme. Whereas in almost all corporate environments, people with well-rounded soft skills thrive. You don't have to be an Engineering graduate or an IT graduate, if you have good soft skills, chances of you moving up the ladder goes up exponentially. If you have a good core competency to go with that, all the more better. Regardless of whether you come from a foreign university/local university/no degree or whatever, it's passion, inquisitiveness and relentlessness that gets you places. Unfortunately, it's very hard to find these on people who pass out from local universities. Then there are such outliers like Mr. Rohan Pallewatte who is has a Bachelor's in English, an Attorney-at-Law and the chairman of a seat belt company - that want to exceed the Six Sigma standard - who supply seat belts for companies like Aston Martin. http://www.01awards.lk/speakers/rohan-pallewatta/ (This is a job for an Engineer, no?) So not everything is black and white.
  5. Get a DSLR that can shoot video. You don't need a camcorder per se. Canon 70D is something we use for similar purposes along with a basic Steadicam when needed. Very decent output. We're not doing it professionally. So ask around for better insights.
  6. In laws own a Bulto 'Sportz'. Bought circa late 2009 (I believe). Kid you not, only has done about 26,000 so far. I make it a point to drive the thing when I'm there just for the amusement it provides.
  7. Oh yeah. Wasn't paying attention to that bit. But maybe try checking anyway? Driving on a rough road and trying to identify steering/suspension issues is not exactly two things that go hand in hand is what I believe. But OP, pay attention to what @Davy says here. The amount of good advice he's given to me over the years is too much to remember.
  8. I had a similar issue and turned out that I was missing the brake pad shims. Made quite a racket while driving on rough roads slowly. @Davy can confirm whether the Lancer EX has brake pad shims. What you can do is, next time you're experiencing the problem apply brakes gently. If the noise goes away, see whether the shims are in order.
  9. Hey @Davy thanks for the mention. @MadushanS Would be glad to be of help. Do reach out.
  10. Wanted to share this you gents and the occasional lady. https://youtu.be/_bkX5VkZg8U
  11. Quite a shame that we don't have a VR4 here in Sri Lanka. Strange how we have the (Subaru) B4 but not the VR4. Was the B4 imported by the agent back then or were they imported "reconditioned"?
  12. Glad to have another fellow Galant owner in the forum. Since the VR4 and Galant fuse boxes appear to be the same, the fuse you're referring to could be something to do with the fancy all wheel drive system that the VR4 has. But I'm not sure. Pinging @Davy
  13. Look man, don't want to know and honestly, I don't care. Not my bandwidth anyway. But do think stuff through before you post it. The industry you and I work is very tightly knitted. People talk. Perceptions about you when you're at the early/middle stages of your career matters a lot when you go up the ladder. So don't screw up!
  14. Hey PL, you do realise right that I know all the directors at your company quite well? Not that I'm going to rat you out, but what you've put in this thread is very incriminating. I understand you're using the bandwidth at night and other related arguments that you could be thinking of. But since none of the people at the top has sanctioned what you do, what you do is wrong. And don't post stupid shit! BTW, the company I used to run, I gave the folks a 5 day window before the end of the month to download at night whatever they wanted. One machine was used and one guy coordinated the downloading. So everybody could request what they wanted, everybody knew what's being downloaded and most of all, it stopped people from downloading the same thing over and over again and during the middle of the month. Think of something like that.
  15. Look up on eBay or Aliexpress. You should be able to find. Found this on the first search on eBay.
  16. Why Netflix? Go pirateflix!
  17. I remember seeing a couple of Jerry cans at Schokman and Samararawickrama showroom at Colombo 5 sometime back. Might be worth giving them a call as well. You might take home one for a lower price as well.
  18. Hey Trinity, wish you a happy birthday mate! Have a good one.
  19. Machan, will PM you. Can you send me the link from which you bought the filter from? Have you installed it?
  20. Brand: Good Year Model: Triplemax FP Size: 205/55/16 Price: 16,000 Comments after one month of use - Good dry and wet grip, Low noise. No negatives so far.
  21. Yeah, similar story here. We had befriended 3 street dogs while living in Pelawatte. We moved houses a few years back and one of the strays actually bit the leg of a mover thinking that he was stealing stuff from our home. That's the only incident of these dogs acting aggressively. Fortunately, we had the strays vaccinated. Even after like 3 years, the dogs recognise us whenever we happen to be in the neighbourhood. Talk about loyalty.
  22. Would you mind sharing how you contacted them? I'll DM my contact details. I need to plan ahead for replacing the dampers at some point.
