1. Brand new prices would be insane.. when I checked back in 2006, agent quoted 140k only for the ECU. Price of the BSI usually floats around 70-75K. In this case you're at the mercy of used spare parts dealers who bring down these bits and pieces from UK. Did you search around usual Peugeot spare parts joints around Panchikawatta? There are quite a few places which stocks used Peugeot spare parts. If you can't settle with the prices panchikawatta guys quoting, then best is to weekend newspapers, there are many individuals who brought down parts of a single car or few spare parts from UK
2. seems like you have replaced almost everything in the steering mechanism. There's a universal joint on the steering shaft. Check whether it's worn out. If that does not sort out, it could be due to worn out theething of the pinion gear or rack itself. This usually happens to the teething gears (both pinion and rack) on the center position as it's the most frequent location which gets impacts from the potholes. if that's the cause which makes this metal sound (assuming you or your mechanic ruled out all other possibilities) some does a temporary solution by rotating the pinion and change the position of the rack slightly in a manner that different set of teething gear would engage at the center position means relatively less worn out teething.
3. check the brake fluid level and brake pads.
4. belated b'day wishes supra!
5. talking about taxis, once got into a prius cab to go on a customer visit along with 03 other colleagues. Driver took off fast through the ramp at office and it got hit on the ground so hard and loud. Then he still tried to roll it away and I couldn't stand the screeching sound and got off. Talk about the very low ground clearance and god knows what these cars have gone through.
6. Don is spot on about the relationship between the efficiency of hybreed cars and the status of battery. In-fact hybrid cars does not do any "magic" except storing the energy which is otherwise waisted in conventional cars, for an example going down on a slopy road or during Don is spot on about the relationship between the efficiency of hybreed cars and the status of battery. In-fact hybrid cars does not do any "magic" except storing the energy which is otherwise wasted in conventional cars, for an example going down on a slope or during braking. This energy is stored in the battery and re-used when necessary. This is the main efficiency it achieves over conventional vehicles. So when the efficiency (energy storing capacity) goes down, it’s natural that the efficiency of this “magic” car also goes down. Ever heard of planned obsolescence? ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Planned_obsolescence ) this is common for batteries of hybrid cars as well. Therefore, 5 year life expectancy is common factor for hybrids as well. Sri Lanka should move into a status where buy a vehicle brand new and use for 5 years and then re-export or re-cycle as oppose to consider them as appreciating assets or investments which does not add any value to our economy (which indeed harmful for our economy as people do not invest on something productive)
7. give it a try at the agents collision repair center at Rathmalana. Ask them to inspect and give a quote for the repair as they have all the equipments even to carryout a paintless dent repair.
8. didn't want to mention names but since you mentioned, he's the chap I was referring to in my previous post. keeping fingers crossed
9. reading your comments made me to think twice about what happened or I could've just been lucky as a supply of few brand new 407 bumpers reached carmart on the same day. I still enjoy the feeling of seeing those unwrapped brand new bumpers. however, from what I gathered, the top layer is still working the same way, giving high priority to new car sales and lesser priority to keep the cars running on roads. However, from many comments I've heard recently plus with my own experience, the new guy in-charge (who was once an apprentice at the same place) at collision repair center is trying hard to make a change.
10. Thought of reviving this thread after my "first" yes first Carmart experience after start owning and using Peugeots over 11 years! 407 met with an accident and front bumper got slightly damaged including the grill. Decided to give it to them as previous owner serviced it through them and the car was known to agents. My repair guy (aruna @ throve) also gave a good recommendation about the new management at the collision repair center and assured that i don't have to pocket out a dime. Handed over the car, still was with a doubt and a shaky mind and told them off (one director and all senior managers I met) the general perception around about the company and the reasons as to why I never stepped in or thought of stepping in during this 11 years of Peugeot experience. Car was completed just in two days!! with brand new bumper, grill, badge and all new chrome inserts on the grill. Everything was in stocks!! Further they negotiated with the insurance company and got everything settled and I drove the car away while ago. A complete mind boggling paradigm shift for me contrary to what I heard about their mechanical repair shop. If there’s a backing of proper insurance coverage, i’d say give it a go with the collision repair center (remember, this recommendation is only for the collision repair center, not their general workshop) before taking it around other garages as most insurance companies do honor agent invoices/spare part prices. I still remember what assessor told me after looking at the quotation. He said “sir the prices they quote are well reasonable them being a company and agents” Just my first experience, still too little to make a complete judgment, thought of leaving this note as I should be fair and reasonable in giving opinions (good or bad).
11. yes. it was among the other assets of the company which got auctionned in the recent past.
12. Pininfarina it is! except one or two all the 406 coupes in the country are accident repairs. Heard the 406 coupe owned by Kav*n Pere*a was changed hands (through an auction I presume) for 2.2mil and it was one of mint specimens according to the source.
13. the inner side of tubeless tires are rough and they aren't designed to hold a tube inside. Therefore you might experience unusually frequent patches as tube might not last long in this rugged tubeless tire. Since it's a rear tire there aren't much of a risk as long as you don't thrash it hard. Also be extra cautious when you're doing long journeys outside the city. Fuel consumption? oh please safety first man.
14. beauty!!! I hate the person who just resprayed everything in maroon color even including the door locks. on the positive side of it, It's got good body shapes and more than anything, all the trims are in-tact, the chrome (stainless steel actually) surroundings on the windshield and door frames, the toughest things to find in-tact in most 504s nowadays. Whatever you do in the restoration, do not let someone who doesn't know about 504s touch it. There's a way of removing the windshield surroundings (rubber beadings and stainless steel inserts) without removing them inserts (stainless steel frames around the windshield) . unfortunately the guy who did the restoration of my 504 is no longer doing restorations but might direct you to a trustworthy tinker who knows his stuff very well. Give yourself a try if you don't have a tinker. He's Sunil and can reach through 112 517948 and the face of your beloved 504 needs to improve a little as it's usual for local tinkers to make up completely a different face out of 504.. I went through a tough time correcting mine and downloaded lot of material, pictures close ups of those curves. Please do search in the forum and you may be able to find the restoration thread of mine. this is my beauty (no longer mine though) parked at the same garage location where it got restored http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/28/nrpd.jpg/
15. most probably from engine block/head.. not from engine bay for sure
16. once I've experienced following with a friend's allion. Car stalled and he thought the battery is weak and asked for my help for a jump start. But when the engine was running I heard typical signs of overheating (engine was under stress and even ignition knock could be heard) still the gauge was at middle point perfectly. Checked the water level to see it was empty and as we added water, it boiled and lots of steam came out before it settled down. which means even to steam there were no water earlier. when there were water in the system, the gauge showed temp. lesson to learn, study the type of the sensor you got (whether it's sending temperature from the block or from water) if it's from water, then if there's no water for the sensor to "sense" the temperature, reading will be inaccurate.
17. to add to the list, supports voice commanding (in your mother tongue), has a semi-auto pilot mode, run flat tires, zero emission and the list goes on..
18. Can you obtain the sensor from your old cat and install it to your new cat which was taken from a 121? Just ask from the garage whether it's possible
19. <blockquote class='ipsBlockquote'data-author="LashNeo" data-cid="246116" data-time="1377430954">
Seems like the launch is now official. it was on Sunday times. I'm not a great fan but here's the link anyways...

http://www.sundaytimes.lk/130825/business-times/all-electric-nissan-leaf-hits-lankan-roads-58689.html

Where was it mentioned as official launch ? It says that company imported these cars directly and brought down 5 units. Words were picked very selectively it seems
20. +1 on the carminder. I use the same and started tracking fuel since I moved on to the 407. Though I didnt' pump full tanks of petrol, this diesel allows me (my pocket ) to do so. forget about the fuel log feature if you don't pump in full tanks.
21. Yes and it's like that for awhile now. If the vehicle has a pink color book means you don't have to worry about the VIC (provided that the book was obtained through the correct process ) For other books, the VIC should be there for the immediate first transfer and after that they will issue a pink book and no VIC.
22. looks like faulty fan relay/relays. if they don't kick in either when the A/C is switched on and gauge is at half mark, you shouldn't be running the car around as you cannot gurantee air flow to the radiator, specially when the car is not moving. Get it sorted out immediately and if I was you, wouldn't run around asking for an expensive gasket replacement.
23. seems like an ill treated lemon.. why worry and try to get into a heap of trouble? rule of thumb.. always seek for well looked after ones (regardless of the make) and none from above list would appear in such a specimen.
24. Try Ruwan at darley road. 777 918 291
25. newer ones has it true but in Euros these were available from early days and there was a time (may be even now) some features were not known (popular) and some even claimed not useful etc. The same crowd price the prius or premio higher by few hundred thousand for those features now. prius with head light washers and cruise control is priced about a hundred thousand more than the basic one and premio is 500,000 higher for just having driver electric seat.
