guys, my friend is planning to buy a 2003 toyota harrier [lexus convert]. car is currently owned by a reputed group and maintained at their own garage. it comes with a warranty of 6 months as a gesture of car's superior condition. it has 130k on the clock.

those who have used a harrier/ rx300, pls let know your thoughts. Or any suggestions for an alternate SUV? friend's budget is 5mn.

I think it's a nice. How much are they asking for it?

BTW not sure but I think you may have to pay luxury tax for a few years. On another note. If your friends budget is that high, maybe he should consider a brand-new vehicle such as a santafe. Might be a little more (5.5 IIRC) but he can look forward to a lot more trouble free years. There should be a few other choices in that range too.

Yep it will be better than buying an 8yr old vehicle which is almost dead (130k)

u'll save a lot on fuel too

jdnet- Luxury taxes are only for the first 7 yrs

Kia Sorento 2011 seems a match, any idea how much a petrol version would be? most reviews i've read are positive.

they ask 5.3mn.

and.. what is better? isn't kia sorento a better option? budget can be streched a bit.

Not really sure which one would be the better deal. They both look pretty good. Altough I dislike the lights on the new sorento (personal preference and not a big deal though). The best way to figure out which suits him the best is for him to test drive both. Pickuing the right one is like picking the perfect suit. You gotta try it on.

Anyway I do think it's a far better deal than going for a '03 harrier regardless of the condition. Since it is relatively old the fact of the matter is there will certainly be work to be done on the car. Paying a little extra for a brand new one would be a better investment in the long run.

Oh yeah and you will get a warranty....

Huh?? what is ur rationale for this comment? most vehicles on the road today average this mileage, and r u saying all these cars are the verge of doom?

today we visited the Kia agent and had a look. all seems good but a test drive is not possible until next Saturday. And there's a long waiting list till June which is worrying. Plus the decently loaded [not fully loaded] petrol version costs around 7mn.

Buy a 2008 Lexus Hybrid from UK. It will cost you 5.6 Mil with taxes etc. So you get a latest unregistered Hybrid that runs more than 18 Kms per Ltr

Yes the luxary tax maybe for 7 years but we don't know how old it was when it was imported do we? The tax is calculated according to the date of registration and NOT the date of manufacture...

Secondly I do not think a vehicle is almost dead at 130k. That's a pretty retarded statement. I wouldn't expect less from you though.

My tribute had more than 170k and my old truck had close to 300k.

I didn't mean it's finished at 130k yet it's good times are fading away

If u can buy a new one for a slightly higher price

You speak from a Sellers perspective.... but would you pay top dollar for a vehicle with 130k on the clock ?

Most people would not

Dude,

this guy is an idiot. He's been talking out of his ass so much he's growing lips on it now.

what do you think most of the jap vehicles without proper auction certificates to prove mileages come down to the country with. Do you actually believe that japan has so many 2007 model axio's that have done less than 10,000 Km in 3 yrs? Many cars have passed this treshold even without the owners knowing it through the ODO meter. So mate, sellers or buyers perspective, a fact is a fact. No company in the world today can build cars that start "dying" after 130k KM and survive.

But ur point on the validity of paying top dollar for a used vehicle stands.
