Hid Xenon Lights

The previous owner on the my vehicle had fitted HID Xenon lights using the old lamp reflectors.

My previous vehicle had the normal lights and to me they seemed to appear brighter at night with greater night visibilty.

My guess is that the old reflectors do not match up with the HID Xenon lights.

Can anyone suggest a HID Xenon expert that I can go to so as to get this rectified?

Be careful though, some dont include the ballast in the package.

Also i am given to understand that xentec kits are of sub par quality so you might want to keep away from them. VVME are supposedly somewhat better.

Thanks, I have already settled for a slim kit from us. Yeah, found lot of auctions only For bulbs and some were only for a single bulb and ballast.

Had terrible stock halogens mate, I settled for these instead of HID's ; http://www.narva.com.au/products/browse/h4 came with some relays and stuff , have no idea what it is really, local electric guy got them installed. Far better than the halogens, cost me around Rs.8000.

Nope, K has nothing to do with power or anything.

Its the color temperature of the light, higher the k the more blue it will be and eventually go to the purple area. Using something between 4300k-8000k is advisable since anything above that wont do you any good.

Take a look at the chart below and you will see that 4300k produces the most amount of luminance

Most HID's are 35W but there are 55W ones also, so if you want more power go for the 55W one but i doubt that will be necessary as a 35W HID produces upto 3 times more usable light as opposed to standard halogens.

Too bad you already have Xenon HID for high beam. Else you could've tried LED bulbs for high beams, and HID for lows. LED would mean you wouldn't have to worry about destroying your ballast and igniters when flashing your high beams.

And +1 for 4300K bulbs, they're the most practical, and simply lovely in the rain. I would set the upper limit at 6000K; 8000K is only good if you want to look cool. I've been running HIDs in my CR27 since May 2009 without any issues, save for a solenoid in the right side bulb which sometimes sticks, due to mishandling by the garage "technicians".

Edit: Just saw that you want HID in your bumper. Might I suggest 3000K, aka golden yellow? They have the best visible light output, and difference between it and 8000k will be like day and night.

Thanks for suggestions, Yeah, can change the HIDs into low beam any time, after reading about how HID ends its life, I think it's better to use for lows. Might do the swap in the weekend. How about the power of LED bulbs? do they as good as HIDs ?

I'd still go for bluish for bumper lights to have uniform 'look' on the lights, or else different lights appear in different colors which doesn't 'look' nice. How about 4500k ?

In local context the chinese cheap ones quoted somewhere around 12 to 15k, same can be brought down through bay of E for about 4k including shipping

4500K/4300K would be perfect. I've seen some pretty powerful H4 LED units, they're consist of clusters of high flux LED, which do get warm at normal operating voltages, as opposed to the regular kind we're used to. But, as always, I'd suggest comparing with your existing lights first though.

bit lazy to do R&D with LEDs and waiting for the package to deliver and fix it is far more easy. Must run another search for LEDs in the bay again. Counting fingers till Saturday to swap the HID to low beam, simply I don't wanna ruin the bosch unit I've brought down.

Thanks and posted this out of the panic after ending up with too many sellers who doesn't ship to SL. However, the cheapest lot, the HK and China sellers do not ship to SL due to unethical behaviours of SL based buyers. Went to customs only ones and all other instances, goods delivered to doorstep including a set of (04) lock handles for VW Golf which I got surprised

Are these HID kits reliable? Cz if we get it from SL they give 1 to 1 replacement. But eBay im not sure. But for the price its worth it a try though.

So far I have no issues... these are for my bumper lights and hence I use the cheaper ones. On the second set due to Motor bike morons ramming into me. Would be a waste to use high-end stuff. I always keep a spare set.. just in case..

i dono but around 3 years back my cousin got PIAA branded 6000K HID with the kit for his hiace and he said it cost him around 100,000rs

Once again the color temperature doesnt really affect the price of the bulb, if you do some digging you will notice that on ebay and in local context all temperatures from the same seller are priced the same. But the higher wattage bulb would obviously cost more than itys lower wattage counterpart.

I noticed that the seller you posted sells xentec HIDs, is your one also xentec ?

i saw a lot of negative reviews and comments on forums about xentec online about that brand being sub par and flickering after sometime, did you notice anything like this ?

guys, anyone aware of the Canbuss error? This happens in most European cars when you try to change the stock lights. I have seen on eBay HID Kits with Canbuss error free. Anyone faced with this issue with a Euro?

Tried swapping the HI and Low last night but failed as the lights I have are H3 but through a small modification I managed to fix it to the high beam as bulb hole of the high beam reflector is small. But the bulb hole of the low beam is bigger and cannot secure the bulb. Either I have to find two burnt out H7 bulbs and do another modification or donate the H3 to the Golf and buy another pair of H7. Till then the current ones will be used on high beam.

one question, does the ignitor waste for on/off when the light/GAS is hot and charged? or it only waste for the first switch on after a long switched off period.

Matchan, Are you using LED bulbs for ur high beam? Are these LED bulbs brighter than stock halogens? Im thinking of upgrading my Low beams with HID Xenons 6000k and High beams with LED 6000k bulbs. Any thoughts?

Also you got those LED's off EBay ?

Igniter is used each time the light is turned on, just like a regular fluorescent lamp. This why flashing headlights is bad for them, and suggested LEDs.
