well then there are Pioneer,JVC,Kenwood brands u can opt for, or even used once that u can find in Ad***ce or P**co

m using a JVC mp3 player with USB support guess u can buy one of those under 10k

but if u can survive with the stock one till u can get to buy the good one would be worth it :)

A friend of mine (why is it always a friend of someone?, anyway..) got one down from Amazon or eBay..but it didnt last long. non of the reputed brands make those gadgets..they are all cheep Chinese stuff (unknown brands), which doesnt last.plus the FM transmissions are not that high quality either, a lot of noise gets picked up and amplified over ur car stereo. u can get a good set up with usb support for a reasonable price, or there are cheep chinese set ups which support only usb / sd / micro cards and radio (no CD) and costs only about 3k. they too will not last long, but at least you will not get too much noise like with the fm transmitter. u can get those in pettah....

There isn't much of a quality difference between any of these type of items. Put a walk down to Unity Plaza or MC and you'll find enough of them. You can of course go with some MP3s loaded to a pen drive and check in the car. you'll need to tune the car audio to the same frequency appering in the gadget, and that's it. I've used one such item (Can't remember any brand name as such) as an interim solution and it worked well.

My cousin bought one of these MP3 transmitters with a small LCD display for 3500/-.I played with it for awhile and it's pretty much what you'd expect. There is a lot of background static noise when playing mp3's and the videos are highly compressed and grainy. For 3500 you can't ask for anything more I guess.I mean there can't be more than a 1000 bucks worth of material in it when you take away the reseller/manufacturer profits, shipping charges and labour.

As everyone says, the background noise is a headache with these kinds of cheap FM transmitters. I used one of like this a few months back. Although it didn't brake up, I just gave up using it due to poor sound quality.

Then I bought a Malaysian made Pioneer CD/MP3/USB head unit for around 11000 from Kayser Street whole sale outlets about 6 months ago.

I think it is better to go for a MP3 head unit rather a FM transmitter, if you need a good sound quality.

FM transmitters work great outside of Colombo. Problem within Colombo is that almost all the radio stations broadcast so strong that frequency ranges fill over. So when you're travelling it's very hard to get a clear signal even if the chosen frequency is far away from the usual frequencies. May be you might get better quality with a somewhat powerful transmitter. I just tested this sometime back with the FM transmitter built into the phone. Might not be a fair conclusion.

Hi ,

My friend from Qutar send this gadjet in 2007 and it was the first time I saw this and none of my friends seen that before. Its also Chineese but Believe me I am still using it without any issue .Main different is it is bit larger than common models in the market and also it has 3 colour display.

It is proved that Chineese stuff that go to some countries are of fairly good quality.
