Go for it mate. There is no issue with this. This is like OEM standard filter (panel type). After that you can feel the difference. :)

But if you are going to fix cone type filter, before that get some advice from professional garage/mechanic.

You should not have an issue provided that you do the regular maintenance of the filter and keep it oiled . Bugatti is running on a K&N for some time and no issues as such.

Recommend not to go with a cone filter my many due to the oxygen sensor failing – panel filter should be Ok

I’ve posted some DIY stuff for Mazda in the section – do a search . I’ll upload a method to increase air to the engine which I picked off a Mazda site

Good luck

Yes please do. I checked with Mazn.. Motors Lali... about the K&N and he said that it can effect the piston rings after some time.even the panel type one. because it does not filter properly.

fitment shouldn't be an issue as long as you get the proper replacement filter from k&n.

the only issue i see is that k&n gives that extra bit of performance by letting more air in.

I've seen a case where dust had gone past the filter on a properly fitted and maintained k&n panel filter. it was on fellow forum member VVTI's P11.

Mine too.. I had fitted a K&N for the Mirigama track day. Used it for a couple of weeks in Colombo, and found that dust had gone passed the airflow sensor. Took off the head n cleaned the valves cos there was fine dust on them. Mind you this was after using extra oil on the filter.

I came to my own conclusion, that our environment is a bit too dusty for these. Might be ok on an open rural road when you can actually put the pedal to the metal to gain that extra power.

well my 2 cents is, if your going on a long distance trip, say hambantota or ideally n'eliya, switching to a K&N should be fine, cause you'll get abit of extra power for over taking and some extra mileage on fuel.. specially towards n'eliya side since the dust is much lesser there, but for everyday colombo running, best is a standard filter and changing it every 10,000 km's.

Apoi, will never use or recommend the use of a K&N filter in SL for daily use. The SR20 was fine till I fitted the panel filter and the subsequent Cone filter. Car started smoking a bit and when we removed the throttle body to see, there was a fine film of dust, like damp talcum powder. Conclusuon was valves were all ground up as it was a LOT. Went back to the paper filter immediately, but the damage was done. Sold the car a few months later.

The extra oommph is nothing much to write about unless you have a matching exhaust and the fuel saving won't amount to anything if you have to do an engine overhaul later on.

Gonna stick to what the factory specified from now on without seeking out that extra ooomph. If you need extra oomph, get a bigger engined car, if you want great fuel economy, ride a bike. Can't have it both ways... :)

My ad for selling them is still up, shameless self promotion... :)

Check out the K&N site, you can find if your car is compatible & they have a OEM for it. Quite likely they would have it.

So are you blaming the flat panel or the cone filter?
