I did it in My 1.3 EFI Mini 3 years back and relocated it's coolant temp sender. It gave me extra 1 km per ltr.

It is there for colder climate countries so the throttle butterfly do not freeze shut. For SL, bypassing it should have no issues. You won't gain nor loose performance by doing it.

I thought it will help to allow cooler intake air to the cylinder. and it will enhance the performance.

Nope, it does the opposite. The job is to heat up the throttle body so it is, in fact, heating the intake charge somewhat but negligible. I don't know about gaining fuel mileage but anything is possible.

I mean by bypassing the coolant line it will help cooler air to flow into the cylinders.

no harm doing it but dont expect any performance different

No I think if you allow cooler air into the cylinder you can have some performance gain. That is the idea of cool air intake.

are you referring to a cold air intake (CAI) or cooler throttle ?

when you bypass the throttle body coolant line it will stop heating the throttle but there is enough engine room temp to heat it to a certain level, regular cars comes with normal Air intakes and it wont make that much of a different,if you do a CAI setup you will gain something, but is it worthy all this trouble for 1 or 2 hp

Yes I was referring Cold Air Intake. And I do not have CAI installed. Anyway I will try to bypass my coolant lines from TB when I have some free time. Doesn't seems to be a difficult job.

Theoretically a cold air intake is more dense than the intake at ambient temperatures. But i guess it's not going to give you any gas mileage or any performance. The way i think of it, the engine should operate at a certain temperature, hence if the intake air is cold unnecessarily it could effect the combustion process because the charge which is displaced to the cylinders have less heat.It could actually do the opposite to your gas mileage or nothing at all. This system works for a turbocharged engine, because the Inlet charge is forcedly induced, more pressure, more temperature under certain conditions. If it was really effective manufacturers would have them in our vehicles ,to have greater numbers of gas mileage.

FYI- the soul purpose of the system is to prevent icing of the butterfly valve and other components during cold weather conditions, when driving and other conditions mainly.

just an opinion :D

This coolant line only heats up the idle air control passage. So it only effect the engine when it is idling. In SL, disconnecting or bypassing will not harm the engine. But I don't think it will effect the fuel consumption.

Oh really? I didn't know that. Thanks for the infor.
